NO. 11 OKLAHOMA STATE VS. NO. 20 LEHIGH

Fascinating Dual on a number of levels. More questions than answers right now; hopefully this will further the process of clarification. Will we be robbed of one of the most intriguing matchups of the year at 133?

125: No. 21 Troy Spratley (8-2) vs.
Sheldon Seymour (5-3)
*Seymour was super aggressive against PSU. Surprised he is not ranked. These guys mirror each other, great opportunity for Spratley to continue to establish himself.

133: No. 3 Daton Fix (1-0) -or-
Reece Witcraft (5-2) -or-
Zach Blankenship (11-0) vs.
No. 1 Ryan Crookham (8-0)
*Please, Please, Please!!!! Interesting that Blankenship is listed as well.

141: No. 9 Tagen Jamison (10-2) vs.
No. 11 Malyke Hines (7-1) -or-
Carter Bailey (7-5)
*Wonder what is up with Hines that he is listed as an “or”

149: No. 24 Jordan Williams (7-2) vs.
Drew Munch (5-3)
*Thrilled there is no “or” here

157: Teague Travis (6-1) vs.
No. 25 Max Brignola (8-2)
*LOVE this development, glad Travis is getting the opportunity. Nail it down!!

165: No. 2 Izzak Olejnik (11-0) vs.
No. 33 Jake Logan (6-3)
*Is there a hotter wrestler in the Country right now?

174: Brayden Thompson (0-3) -or-
AJ Heeg (11-2) vs.
Thayne Lawrence (2-4)
*Heeg seems ready to maximize his opportunity.

184: No. 3 Dustin Plott (11-1) -or-
Jersey Robb (8-0) vs.
Caden Rogers (4-2) -or-
Jack Wilt (5-3)
*A break for Plott? An earned opportunity for Robb?

197: No. 12 Luke Surber (8-1) -or-
Kyle Haas (4-1) vs.
No. 9 Michael Beard (8-1)
*Wish Surber were 100%

HWT: No. 11 Konner Doucet (7-1) vs.
No. 16 Nathan Taylor (7-3)
*Shoild be a great nightcap

My interpretation on Blankenship is throwing a second one in there to think about two styles to prep for, don't think it will affect Crookham, think it means doubtful on Fix, hope I'm wrong.

The J Robb may be same thing make their guy think about two styles but it has to be Plott, he looks great and we need the pin.

If Surber issue is anything that requires rest and time off can't throw him into this weekend against Beard and Buchanan, but hopefully it was only something like a temp stinger and he is 100%

We are going to need bonus and a couple mild upsets, the guys look like they are capable of such at Vegas but prob gonna be a tight meet.

If we can show up at 149 and 174 the dual shouldn’t be very tight. Konners match holds some weight (no pun intended)

WS has it at 19-12W with Fix & Surber in and 16-17L with them out. We have to take care of business in all the tight matchups, we really don't know what we have at 157, 174 and HWT is always a 1pt crap shoot. Bonus wherever can get it would be good.

Finishing up Lehigh vs Penn
State…

•Bailey pushed Bartlett, will be a good test if he goes

•Brignola came out guns blazing vs Haines. Haines needed a 3rd period takedown to get the advantage.

•Mesenbrink worked over Logan with ease

•Starocci mauled Lawrence

•Truax had little issue with Wilt

•Beard with an unspectacular, workman like win vs. Cochran

Just a guess on my part: wouldn’t be surprised if most of the “-ors-“ got at least 1 match this weekend…

Chance we see Fix. Think Surber is out for a bit.

Need to see wins at 25, 41 and 49. Those guys are probably the key the season in terms of overall success. Big weekend for these 3.

Stanich does not look 125 lbs. much bigger

Some quick takeaways from last night…
Overall, great feeling about this Team despite the final two matches.

125: Still more exciting than it has been, still having trouble getting a true feel for upside potential. Most important thing is the energy and desire to be there.

133: You gotta love Reece Witcraft. He’s a high end backup that is always entertaining and somehow gives himself chances despite routinely doing things you aren’t supposed to do. Glad Daton didn’t wrestle this guy if he wasn’t 100%.

141: This guy’s upside might have been undervalued. Showed the strength you hear about as well as some quickness. Feels like OSU has a long term solid winner.

149: Ulta-raw Hardell Moore. Wildly entertaining and athletic. Super dangerous wrestler. The upside is obvious. He got gassed halfway through the 2nd period. Looked like he was enjoying himself. Felt positive.

157: perhaps the best development of the evening. OSU found its guy. Solid win against a solid ranked wrestler. This gives some hope that you can now throw out a guy that can potentially compete.

165: Man on a Mission. The length and speed are going to cause problems.

174: Felt like there have been some “this is your last chance” discussions. Body language was better. Effort was better. Out of shape and sloppy. You can see the raw potential. Will the drive and desire to develop come along?

184: looking so natural and comfortable at this weight. Great combination of strength and quickness.

197: It’s hard to say anything here. Obviously super tough, quality opponent. Didn’t see anything that gives you hope for development. Might be time for someone else to seize the backup spot.

285: Disappointing loss. The other guy used his size advantage to truck Doucet on a double leg and Doucet ran out of time after a couple of nice scrambles. Waited too long to get anything going.

Very good summary Jay. Not sure if Doucet was fully recovered, but was not ready for that early shot and it lost him the match. Pleasant surprise at 157. My gut feeling is that he is too Teague is a little light for this weight, but you take advantage of the opportunities that you get.

I’m not a wrestling expert by any means but it’s consumed my family’s life lately so we bought season tickets this year. We took the whole family last night for the first time and we had a blast. There were so many good takeaways and things to be positive about. Reece probably could’ve stopped the major but I like how aggressive he was being. It’s nice to feel m so positive about 125 through 184 imo.

I feel like we’ve been seeing similar things from our HWTs for so long. It blows my mind that we can’t get a guy at that weight. Hoping CC is the real deal.

197 was just so bad. Absolutely helpless. The shot was deep and things were over before he’d even realize he was in trouble. Just zero defense or fight to stop the takedowns

Thompson is young coming off an injury getting some confidence, and some matches. I think he will improve more every outing, wouldn’t be surprised if he he had some highs and lows throughout the season. Doucet needs to wrestle like he’s behind ever match would rather he lost some trying to score then more of the same. Just my opinion
