Looking at current Intermat Rankings, here is a look at each Cowboy's opponent both in the Big 12 & Non-Conference Match-Ups.

Candidates for the toughest overall road ahead: Teague Travis, Konner Doucet, & Luke Surber (Olejnik & Plott are givens due to their unique Big 12 Challenges).

In my opinion, OSU's progression should include:

1. Win Big 12 Tournament
2. Top 3-5 at National Tournament
3. Contend for National Title

OSU looks to be on track for #1 & #2, in my opinion.

All of our wrestlers will be tested hard with the end of our schedule. I see the Iowa match as 5 to 5 and probably the 2 wrestlers who may have the best chance to bonus are Daton and Dustin. You may be right with your prediction. We need to improve a bunch because right now I think we have 3 Big 12 finalists, Daton, Dustin, and Tagen. Tagen is more questionable than the other 2.

Based off of rankings everyone should be a Big 12 semi-finalist except.

4th seed #16 ranked Surber (I was wrong he would be 4th)
6th seed #25th ranked Thompson (fourth and fifth seeds are ranked #23 and #24) and faced neither.
6th seed #18 ranked Teague Travis (brutal conference)
5th seed #20 Ranked Spratley (has not faced the two guys ranked 17th and 18th above him.)

There are no givens at 165- probably toughest weight in conference. But should be top 4 seed.

Jay that is in a perfect world wrestling doesn’t work that way they have a lot of tough matches before big 12 this is why fans are always disappointed. We have four freshmen starting to show improvement fans want a big 12 championship this year at top 3 to 5 finish that would be great, but that’s a little unrealistic for this year. It would be nice

I agree, I believe we are a strong dual team but at this time not a strong tournament team. To make my point using the rankings Jay 45 is using we would have 3 All Americans. Now we do have 2 wrestlers rated 9th but to me we are a stronger dual meet team because of our balance and having 10 wrestlers that are at least solid. We don't have enough standouts. As Blair has pointed out we need more number 1 in their weight class recruits. I indicated my bias with Hughes, Carroll and also Thompson they were number 1 at their weights. I believe we have 2 number 1's coming in next year, Sakamoto and Merrill with 1 coming in the next year Lockett. We need these wrestlers to come here but then we must develop them so that they soon become number 1 at their college weights.

We should give Christian Carroll a couple of these dual meet starts against fair opponents if he is healthy and can keep his redshirt. It would also be smart to give Hughes a match or 2 if he can keep his redshirt against a good opponent. This would be good experience for them.

I would imagine, at this point in the season, barring injuries, team is set, but they will probably get them into open tournaments

Christian had knee surgery and it’s not ready. When would you suggest we plug in Hughes Missouri or OU. Teagen is not going to want to sit out in bedlam And Hughes wrestled 41 in the open so he cannot go to 33 with the descent plan in time

He could wrestle against Arizona State or UNI since we have 2 duals those weeks. With Carroll I did indicate if he was healthy and that he wrestle against an okay opponent. I think Coach Smith had plans to use redshirt freshmen some in duals for the experience they would gain and see where they are at ability wise.

Our young starter need all the matches they can get. Will only help them improve.

Well he has wrestled none of the freshman, umless it was for injury reasons only didn’t take advantage of the rule?
