Man some of you go sideways on the potential that something might not go right.

It could be one of the greatest deals ever. It might go wrong.

Excuse me if I have my doubts about the trustworthiness of a lifetime Commie.

Excuse me if I don't recognize Trump as my lord and god (though I voted for him and would again against virtually any Democrat).

It's okay to be a little nervous about this deal. We've made tons before with commies and they've proven they can't be trusted. Why is today suddenly different?

And don't drop the "Because Trump" line. It takes 2 to tango.

At least we didn't try to bribe them with billions of dollars. That's a positive on Trump's side.

What do you estimate is our tangible cost or their tangible gain if things don't work out?

I just don't get all the hand wringing, probably because I'm missing the tangible impact of it not working out.

I just want to know what legitimize means and how kim cashes that in. With the same sanctions and isolation what is he gaining by being legitimized?

He's hoping for a loosening of sanctions (There have been sanctions against his people right?).

His people are starving. He's desperate. Making a step out of isolation into the world community might ease that.

I'm obviously spit balling because I haven't been watching or reading the news.

Maybe he's thinking if China can transition into a money player in the global economy, so can North Korea.

Ive been listening to the libs and the “this legitimizes kim” is not playing with me. We could loosen sanctions but that’s separate.

And @AC2017

I'm of the thought that "Legitimize him" is a scare word only. You legitimize someone, in this context who is an unknown. We can give trade, we can take it away. We can cancel military ops, we can resume. He may be able to import some goods for 6 months, then revert to being horrible. Okay...wooo... got us.

There may be incremental costs if this goes sideways, but the risk-reward possibilities are lopsided on the good side.

Curious the liberal media didn't use the same terms in the Iran deal.

IMO that's simply because they (MSM) are using a meaningless boogey word to create perception to bash Trump in ther event that it does go sideways.

They held no desire to make Obama look bad.

If you thought the whole animosity with NK was stupid to begin with, you really don't care if Trump completely screws up these talks by giving away the farm. Worst case scenario is NK remains nuclear armed and we de-escalate our beef with them.

Actually, there are posts of me, from over a year ago, addressed to you — saying the GOP establishment might even be worse than the Dems.

I haven’t changed my mind on that.

Yeah...I REALLY wasn’t referring to “GOP establishment” when I said this....

And yet you seemingly only focus on the contradictions within the other side as you see it.

Also part of the human condition, I guess.

We’re all clear that the GOP Establishment isn’t your side. All things Trump and Trump supporting (with the itty bitty wiggle room of mj) is your side.

Just so we are clear.

Besides it being the new buzz phrase, what exactly does "gave legitimacy" mean? Are people in NK confused as to who their dictator is? Is the world community confused? If Kim was some relatively unknown person I would get it. But he isn't and never has been since taking over.

If the US is willing to negotiate and meet and possibility enter into a deal with NK without meaningful concessions on such things as human rights, etc. it makes it more likely that other countries will be willing to do so rather than following the contain and sanction policy lead of the US in the passed....even if we don’t get a deal and want to return back to sanctions, etc.

Kind of like how meeting and dealing led to a bad deal that everybody but us is still following despite us pulling out.

That’s what it means to me.

Is it worth the risk, IMO?

Yeah....probably.
