Whiskey & Bourbon Collectors/Aficionados....

Oh they do a fund raiser and have a bunch of rare bottles they auction off on an online live auction. I got an email or read it in a news article. It’s not on Costco’s website it’s something else but they are who runs it. I will see if I can run it down. I thought of this thread when I read it.

Damn... I wish I were rich. There's a ton of awesome selections - that will go for WAY more than I can afford.
I figured when I read they want to raise 250k this year. Sounded like some good stuff in there though.

Well Liquids sent their email out and I was an hour late seeing it , super pissed at my self for missing it that long.

I'll take a photo when it all comes in but this past week I've picked up:
The full 1792 line: Sweet Wheat, 12 year, BiB, Small Batch, Single Barrel, Full Proof
Then won 2 razzes.
Makers Mark FAE-01 and 02
Weller Antique 107 and Bardstown Fusion

Pretty solid few weeks.

I saw Fred Minnick talk about old Forrester 1920. I happened to see one bottle in my local store. I have to say it’s very good for the price.

what the heck is happening to the scotch supply though? Lots and lots of empty spots in shelves.

OF1920 is one of the most underrated bottles out there. Great drinker, great price, and you can find it anywhere.

So I played in a 10 person poker tournament. The buy in was a bottle of bourbon. Winner got to pick 5, 2nd place got 3,. and 3rd place got 2 bottles.
I got the 5 on the right.

Swap the chicken cock for the four roses. Are you going to try to qualify for the World Series again?

We alternated picks, so he got the 4R before I did. But I’m overall happy with how the picks fell out.

And yes, I plan on playing in the WSOP main event next summer. Future world champion.
What Champ should have got to pick all 5 then second all 3 then third. Congrats sir!

Is it just me, or do the razzes on tMB seem to be getting more and more expensive for a spot relative to the value of the whiskey? Today I saw a bottle over there that I've seen a number of times in the wild at retail for 23.50 per pick.

EDIT: It's actually the Elmer T. Lee they just filled up. $27.50 seems quite high for that bottle, and I actually have seen it twice, once at Total Wine which had nine of them, for about $55.

I've never seen one in the wild. I'll do cost plus shipping for as many as they'll sell you and then add on some extra to make it worth your time. And yeah, it's like a $50 msrp bottle.

Secondary on that bottle is about $300. So if that cost included shipping then it was a reasonable price. But yeah, I don't like doing razzes that are that close to secondary.

I will say that I've won my share of tMB razzes.

It’s Friday and I’m too lazy to look back in the thread but have we talked about Laws?

It’s Colorado distillery I think is making great whiskeys if you can get it in OK grab some.

Always looking to try a new one, so bought a bottle of OF 1920 based on this thread and it tastes like a monkey ate a case of banana laffey taffey and took a $hit in the barrel. I am still shocked at how pervasive banana was in the nose and on the pallet.

I’ll finish the bottle, cuz bourbon, but won’t buy another.

that said, since it was such a strong presence, I googled the webnets and found that banana was a common descriptor.

There’s a Reddit devoted to it

interestingly, there’s a belief that brown forman has banana notes, Buffalo trace has cherry notes, and JB brands have nut undertones. Does that hold water? Curious what others have found. Not a fan of banana and will steer clear of brown forman if that’s the case.

perhaps it’s the BF yeast

Very?

I’d be hard pressed to disagree more, but glad you enjoy it. Perhaps you’re more of a “monkeyguy” than cowguy.

For my tastes, it’s a banana bomb for certain and that’s not an isolated opinion. Bananarama Reviews

I do pick up the cherry undertones in both Buffalo Trace and Blantons. Not sure about jim beam brands and nut flavors-could probably say that about many bourbons
