The Coleman factor

5 freshman and better recruiting in the past three years

We have recruited at a high level for quite awhile. Recruiting got a shot in the arm when Caldwell got turned loose.

Culture, development and RTC issues is what held us back and have all been improved. Coleman is part of all that.

Really good hire and should show everyone he is the guy.

Safe to say that you’re over it not being Pop?

Coleman filled in on the radio show a few weeks back. He touched on technique, mindset, match tactics -- sounded pretty darn impressive.

Besides the mat stuff, Willie has said Coleman is a big picture type guy when it comes to things like fundraising.

We haven’t recruited at a high-level except the last 2 to 3 years high-level is number one not 3-4-5 when Chris Perry and Tyler Caldwell took over 90% of the recruiting is when it changed the focus was on a different type of wrestler number 1 , Fargo champs ,,world team members . Look how many we have gotten in the past 3 years compared to the previous seven

Change is always good but the coaches have a whole different level of kids in attitude

We have signed a bunch of them. Didn’t have other things in place to take advantage of IMO.

Also missed on some evals.

Witlake, AJ, AJ brother, Joe, Kaid, Mastro, Chance, G, etc….

Joe kaid Mastro AJ brother none where number ones like we are getting now they where close but not number 1

Yes that is by far our best chance how many NC we had in the last 15 years that wasn’t a Number 1 how do you think Cael has did it tell me how many he has turned into NC that weren’t in that category
Are you talking #1 at the weight class coming out of high school because Kaid was. Joe was #7 on the big board and Kaid was #10

AJ won a championship. Wittlake, Joe, and Kaid were All Americans. How anyone sees that as a failure is a mystery to me.

One could speculate that there was some mid season mismanagement. Joe Smith is the obvious case though we fans don't know the details. But AJ becoming college wrestling's #1 villain, Kaid and Travis both getting hurt three seasons in a row, and Mastro quitting to RUN A FREAKING ZOO... I don't know how you prepare for that kind of thing. Lol.

Takeaway for me is that OSU limped along but punched above its weight from like, 2015-2020. Then we had some pretty unique challenges in 2021-2023. Now the turnaround is in progress with changes in coaching, recruiting, training, fundraising, facilities, and the freestyle program. Pretty impressive considering how slowly institutions tend to change.

Howdy folks. IMO which aint much, Coleman is definitely making a difference. Ive seen him speak and the kids respond. Tech is being used in a bigger way also to monitor kids health and training 24/7, not sure if he has a lot to do with that but I hadnt seen that before until this year. Fresh ideas, mindsets and perspective is what this team has need for a good long while. Letting go of some of the old and embracing the new. This time of the year especially which is when we normally see overworked, tired, lathargic Cowboys.

Nickal, RBY, Cassar, Joseph, Lee, Brooks, Dean….

None were #1. It’s okay to be wrong Blair 🤣

First off it’s OK for you to be a smart ass second off Brooks was number one Lee was number one Tom bravo Young was number one Nichols was number one you just want something to argue about Brooks had already made a world team. Nicolas already made a world team Lee had already won. Fargo was ranked number one Kaid Brock was not number one number one Fargo.

I think it was Willie who said that Kerkvliet decommitted from us because we were recruiting AJ. So probably never would have happened.

not true at all, Kirk was going to follow Snyder wherever he went to be his training partner which is why he also de-committed from Ohio State when Snyder left to go to PSU

Willie did say that about Kerkvliet. Kerkvliet & AJ were on the same Cadet world team, so it's possible they didn't get along. But there were probably other reasons he didn't stick around.

In response to Kerkvliet's de-commitment in July '18, Aaron Brooks's dad posted on the Iowa board that top wrestlers were looking to be paid after graduation. And that OSU's RTC didn't have the assets. That was true at the time, Heil & Collica had just left for OU's RTC in May '18 and Dieringer was the only post grad athlete.

You are wrong and moving the goal posts.

You said name guys who weren’t #1’s and I listed 7.

Nickal #2
RBY #13
Cassar NR
Joseph #3
Lee #4
Brooks #2
Dean #74

Okay but even with us having an uptick... how many guys out of Troy, Daton, Tagen, Jordan, Teague, Izzak, BT, Plott, Surber/Jersey & Conner were #1's?

There is a difference and you can't blame it on #1's imo
Then you know nothing about recruiting and differents in a #1 and a # 4-10 at there weight

Again moving the goal posts a bit.

Several on that list weren’t #1 at their weight either.

RBY, Cassar, Lee and Dean all weren’t #1 at their weight.
