But Communist revolutionaries and revolutionaries in general (Robespierre tried to erase French history and De-Christianize France) wipe it away wholesale. They want to start over from scratch and have no memory of the ancien regime or whatever you'd like to call it. This is specifically one aspect of American history and culture that is being 'erased'. They aren't tearing down the Lincoln Memorial or Fenway Park. So, I disagree with your premise .
