6 OK State wrestlers in Reno TOC today

Sam Smith gets 2nd win with 19-6 TF.
Thompson is seeded #1 and had a 11-2 Major. He looked same to me as last year. Moved in semi-slow motion but managed 3 takedowns. He has good mat sense and hard to take down but not seeing any fire or rapid movement. One takedown in last two periods and seemed content to ride out. I may be too critical but saw little improvement from 2023-24.

Merrill had a 23-6 tech fall. Sorry to say I missed it so will have to go to replay.

Merrill had 7 takedowns in less than 2 periods. Whether he shoots or his opponent shoots when they separate, he moves fast and comes up with a leg and trips his opponent very easily. I was not impressed with Thompson but he won easily. His desire seems very low, and he seems lack any desire to dominate or be explosive. He is hard to understand. He does not seem to want to burn much energy.

Cutter Sheets in quarters with a 16-4 major decision as is Kolter Burton with 14-3 major decision. Trevor Dopps is in round of 16 after a fall. Sam Smith loses 7-3 and is in consolations. Jersey Robb had a bye but in round of 16 at 184.

Thompson major dec. 13-3 to make qtrs. Jersey Robb 10-7 dec. Trevor Dopps 12-1 major decision.
Oberebo, Thompson looks better than he did in the Hays Tournament semi's and finals but I would like to see more. Jersey Robb had a tough match but his opponent seemed as strong as him. I thought he was beginning to dominate the 3rd period but gave up a takedown. Sam Smith lost in the consolations and Sheets lost in the quarters. Those who think he could take Young's position I would disagree with.

Harley, I agree Sheets is not going to replace Young but I see real improvement. He lost in quarters 4-2. Burton also lost in the quarters. Sam looks undersized for 133. Merrell , Robb, Dopps along with Thompson have not wrestled their quarter final matches yet.

Thompson won by pin in the 3rd period. Close match until then because Thompson seemed to hurt his leg then gave up a takedown. It seemed like he was ready to quit but got a takedown to take the lead. He rode the 3rd period and halfed him over for the pin. You look at his body language and it seems he doesn't really love wrestling. Cody won by tech and dominated. Not a lot of clean takedowns but gets go arounds and gets a leg before the person can separate after an unsuccessful shot. Near 50 degrees and so I am going to ride for a while.

Harley, I just got a chance to watch Thompson's quarter final match Flo Arena showed him winning 5-3 and that indeed was close to the score before Thompson took him down and then pinned him. He hurt his leg on an earlier TD attempt and was limping after the match so I do not know how severe the injury is to the leg or knee.

Former Cowboy Daniel Manibog wrestling at 165 for Cal Baptist is in the finals winning 11-6 in the semis.
Thompson won by major in the semi's. He seemed to wrestle okay. Cody Merrill won 4 to 2 with this opponent was strong and therefore with Cody not getting off good shots he did not score much. Cody needs to work on getting clean shots. He seems to depend on heavy hands getting his opponent off balance and then securing a leg. This would explain not scoring on Surber. He may struggle with Rademacher who is very strong.

I was a big fan of Cutter when he filled in before they gave the nod to Fish (in terms of the kid came out to wrestle).....however, after losing to Garver (who Young has MD twice this year), he then lost to a backup from Oregon St.

I'm guessing there's more to it, as I do think he is much better than that, but unfortunately he is not to the level we need for a starter.

Merrill's opponent was an NAIA National Champ for Grand View.

Watched all of BTs matches and I’m not excited for him to be the starter next year. At all. We need other options if he doesn’t improve.

True freshman from that damn blue team out east Josh Barr just beat AA Little from LR. And we got BT walking around like he has on concrete shoes.

Thompson wins 7 to 2 but his 2nd takedown was off a desperation throw by his WEC opponent. Merrill loses to Rademacher 4 to 2 by losing a takedown after his takedown was called no takedown. Cody had several chances to get the leg but Rademacher was too quick. This occurred with the 20 and Under match this summer. Cody can not quite get Rademacher's leg on reshots. Disappointing, I was hoping for more from Thompson and Merrill. Both need more offensive shots.
