Whiskey & Bourbon Collectors/Aficionados....

I also saw a raffle at $100 per ticket for the entire Michter’s line. That was tempting as well.

But for that Pappy raffle, they’ll sell up to 2500 tickets with 1 winner. And I don’t get to oversee the selection - hard pass for me.
Yeah. A pretty slim chance for $100. They’ve sold 1,300+ so far. The drawing is supposed to take place on FB Live.

Best bet is finding a liquor store who does some kind of raffle. Byron's in OKC has had about 4-5 different raffles since before XMas and each has had the antique releases. I would guess that is the only way you'll ever get it from a store at MSRP.

We do not speak that stores name on a certain oklahoma bourbon Facebook group. Many theories about Byron's raffle's being shady as F... if you look at the pictures you see the same people winning rare bottles many times.

Best way to get rare bottles is find a store that has a loyalty program and keep buying from that store and hope you win they're drawing, I got a EH Taylor Barrel proof this year, but saw nothing about BTAC, I'm sure it went to their TOP buyers and I just don't drink that much lol.

As someone else said the best secondary markets is on mainly facebook look up "BSM", in think their up to v11 so "BSM v11" they keep getting shut down because it is not legal to ship liquor. There are Oklahoma secondary groups but they're much harder to get into, and are more about trading than buying/selling.

No wonder I never win.

Do you know of any OKC's stores that have loyalty programs? I would definitely shop at a place like that. I tend to go to Byron's because I know I'm buying at MSRP so I don't have to keep up with prices.

I do not know, I'm in Owasso and only know of one here.

Another term used a lot is "relationships matter" but that doesn't mean if you go into one store and get friendly with the owner that he will always hook you up. I know a guy that picked a store, got to know the owner spent lots of money there and when the time came for rare stuff to come out, the owner said "oh yea I got something for you" and tried to sell him a bottle at secondary price. (I dont remember what bottle it was, it was not BTAC or anything special, was something stupid may have been Buffalo Trace now that I think about it LOL) Needless to say he was pissed. But if you are the type of guy that is friendly and can talk someone into holding a bottle for you if you spend money there then that is another way to get some good bottles, but be very specific on what you want them to hold for you!

Thinking of having someone pick me up a bottle of the 2020 Barrell Craft Spirits 15 YO. Supposed to be among the very best super high-end bourbons fairly available. Reviews seem really high across the board, and surprisingly all of them say it's actually worth the price. Thoughts?

I've had the 13 year barrel and it was fan-freaking-tastic.

Not a bad haul today. 4 store picks.

Has any one tried WT's small batch?

I bought a bottle when the liquor store didn't have any of my previous go to purchases.

There was a flattering review that was posted on the shelf, but I'd never heard of the "reviewer" and figured it was marketing BS. Since choices were very limited, I bought it anyway just to try it.

At first I regretted buying the bottle, but it's grown on me.

I have the rye but haven't opened it yet.

Man I was in FL last week and the liquor store down there had all this. I saw this thread on the drive home and was kicking myself. Thinking I should have bought a load and brought it back to make a couple dollars. They had one behind the counter in 400ish range and I almost had my BIL talked into going in halves with me after our fishing charter was cancelled. No clue on the name only know it was scotch. I was pretty sauced most the times I was in there.

I am in Florida on vacation also. The Walmart liquor store has a ton of choices for quite a bit cheaper than Oklahoma. I just bought some vodka for the beach but if I was driving back I would stock up. They had Angel’s Envy on the shelf.

Is it possible to get a bottle of 15 year Pappy?

Would any one consider buying a bottle from a place like this For suckers?

I would not buy something like Pappy from a web site, unless it's for MSRP and you feel like wasting $125 to take a shot.

Pappy has not came to Oklahoma in years, so they only way you're going to get it here is via 2ndary market and you're going to pay out the ass for it. And you better find a very trustworthy 2ndary group to spend that kind of money on bourbon. Especially when there is such good bourbon out there that you can get for under $50 on the shelf. I get that the hunt is fun, but there is not hunting Pappy!

Appreciate the opinions. The seller would definitely have to be vetted, but some amount of risk is always there. Interesting about it not coming to Oklahoma. Curious, did you learn that from HQ, a liquor distributor, etc.? Most retailers just tell me you can't get it, not that it doesn't come here at all.

If any one has had the 15 or 23 year, is it worth the secondary market price?

Unless you are a theMainboard rich, it is difficult to justify paying secondary prices for those bottles.

Got the info from a Oklahoma bourbon group , if I remember right it was from a liquor store owner that is on the group who's rep told him that. We also have a Sazerac rep in the group that did not dispute it, so I figured it's true.

Oklahoma does get a few. But our system of distributors is pretty messed up and they hoard them and give them only to their best clients who most likely gives them a kickback. Then the store sells them to only their high spenders.

So while not technically correct that none come to Oklahoma. It's virtually correct as the general population has virtually no opportunity to find one.

Picked up a nice Weller Full Proof Barrel Pick today. Can’t wait to crack it.

Dude...after all the scores you've made recently? :D
Still jealous. Those are some prime bottles.

Although I did get a call from a buddy in New Orleans saying he might have a hook up for some Pappy bottles. We'll see if it comes through and how much they may be asking for them.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure what "main board rich" means, so I missing out on this humor (much like some Pappy!)

For perspective, is there a consensus as to what is generally regarded as a "high (enough) spender" on an annual basis to garner some possibly preferential treatment at a liquor store?

I’ve told this before, but we had a big shindig in Nashville a few years ago and the supplier that took us out bought everyone who wanted one a 1.5 ounce pour of pappy 23. It was 95 bucks for that pour. I’m much more a scotch guy than a bourbon guy, so take my review for what it’s worth, but I didn’t find it life changing. Was it good? No question. Is it worth 95 bucks? Not to me.

You'll find a lot of people think that the 23 is not the best of the bottles, most think the 15 year is the sweet spot. Even most some of the best master distillers think 23 years is to long and only do it because of the market and their bosses tell them (can't find the article where I read this but I'll look for it later).

I've had the 10 year rip van winkle (don't call it pappy to a purest) and it was good, I would pay MSRP but not 2ndary prices for it. I agree that at this point it's just the name that has made it so valuable.

Found it

I don’t have first hand experience with this but I’ve seen many comments from those who do.

I think it depends on the store but generally I think we are talking about customers spending a minimum of $2k-$3k/yr

Yeah. It all depends on the store. I’m a high spender at my local store in B’ville. But I wouldn’t even register at Park Hill liquor in Tulsa.

Big wine collectors are probably the highest spenders and they then get a Pappy and don’t even appreciate it.

You know, it’s possible to do both.
