Well we finally had a good performance by our backup 184 Stika. He kept us in the match. Now Surber needs to win for us to win the dual.
Major props to Stika but its sad that he wrestled better than most of our starters.
That is the worst dual I've ever seen OSU wrestle in my life. 40 plus years I can't remember a worse loss.
Not happening wrestling like that.
We looked like dog shit tonight. No heart, no effort.
John needs to hire an assistant from Iowa to teach them how to fight back. Why didn’t suber try to jerk his leg out instead of just doing nothing.
Has anyone ever seen OSU give up four upset losses and score zero bonus points in a dual before? Oh and against an unranked team?!?
Teske was much better last year and is rated 20th by Flo at 125. I will say Mastro wrestled a good 1st period and pulled it out in overtime but he was horrible in the 2nd period being rode for 2 minutes and then got beat in the 3rd period to take the match to overtime. He did much better than G, Sheets, Wittlake and Plott wrestled the worst. Geer tried but the quality of his wrestling wasn't good and so he got majored. Then Surber did nothing but get ridden. Truth is this was a well deserved loss to a team that should not have wrestled us even close. UNI is not rated in the top 25. Our coaches did not have us prepared for this dual. The accident was likely involved but we still should have been prepared.

Young looked good but needs some seasoning.
Gfeller backed up the whole match but won.
Sheets needs to wrestle a first period before the match starts. Sleep walks.
Wittlake I don’t know what to say. No offense. UNI has some tough dudes. Be ready for it.
Plott that guy is known for his cradles I’m pretty sure.
Geer ran into a National finalist that every team in the country would like to have minus Penn State. He’s a stud.

Makes me wonder if AJ is in worse shape than what I was hoping. The team looked like they’d lost their leader.
Doug Schwab is a hell of a coach! They are always a really physical team. Gotta be tough being the third tier program in Iowa but they are always a tough out. I bet they whip the Goons tomorrow. Maybe he should be our next hire. Bet he could do well at OSU.
I’ve seen a lot of duals, but no is a safe bet. The wrestling world is dancing around right now in joy, but I wouldn’t count us out.
Radio said AJ will at least be out a few weeks if he even returns.

Tonight's one of those nights where I'm grateful the good lord gave us bourbon. Let's hope they come out on fire tomorrow
Tonight’s evaluation is simple. Doug Schwab kicked John Smith’s tail. You don’t get out worked and out hustled at nearly every weight and not put the praise/blame squarely on the coaches. I don’t care that Mastro lost to Teske last year. He showed no explosiveness or fire to get off bottom. UNi 133 outshot Fix about 3-1. Fix just outclassed him. Young was great in the 1st and coasted to victory. Gfeller should have been hit for multiple stallings. Sheets was deep on multiple shots In the first and then quit wrestling (common theme tonight). Wittlake, Plott and Geer…..fearless v timidness. Geer doesn’t wrestle many close matches. He dominates anybody ranked lower than him and is dominated by everybody ranked above him. Too much evidence that that is a failure in mental preparedness and approach. I am happy that Stika was fortunate to wrestle a backup like himself. Size is no longer an excuse for Surber.

What is concerning is that these guys in the starting lineup are the best we have in the room? I have no clue how Surber beats Harris in the room
Anyone with judgement knows we can't do better than John Smith and every match he has been disgusted with our performances since the year changed. We maybe should have wrestled in the Southern Scuffle because we seem lost. Everyone needs to take an honest look at themselves especially John because we are close to the bottom and real change in our performances needs to occur. We complain about attendance but I have not enjoyed any of our performances in 2022. We have lost some fan attendance with our average performances and now pitiful performance. They were going for 500th win in our arena tonight. We may have lost our wrestler leader and Daton did not inspire anyone tonight.
I watched Iowa vs. Penn St. last night. Everybody that took the mat wrestled their ass off for both teams, even the lower ranked kids.
Harris is not our answer. Lots of pressure was on Surber and he did not handle it well. But much more experienced wrestlers for us put him in this bad situation
No way OSU wrestling fans would accept a guy who went to Iowa as our head coach.
It was crazy. We didn’t ride worth a piss on top and then struggled or couldn’t get off bottom. UNI has wrestled Mizzou, Cornell, Penn State, and Virginia Tech. Most of our guys only have 9 to 10 matches. This might be the wake-up call they need. John saw this coming last week when he talked about how there is no sense of urgency. Now get it fixed.
This is the time of the year when John is wearing them out in practice. He wears them out physically while trying to make them mentally tough. Even with the tough workouts and stadium runs, we showed zero mental toughness. Surber didn't do a damn thing to score. I do not understand the hubbub about Plott. I know that he was hurt last year but he has shown me absolutely nothing since he has been on campus. The only word to describe to describe tonight is Pathetic!
In high school you learn not to pull your knees almost to your shoulder when you are on a leg and your opponent is over your back or side because you will get cradled even if the guy isn't known for cradles. But if you know the guy is known for cradles you would think Plott would know. Plott set himself up to be cradled.
We will be fine and respond. 174 & 157 will respond tomorrow. 165 came back a week early from injury, doesn’t have stamina right now. 125 and 141 are getting better by the day. Yes, embarrassing performance at home but R-E-L-A-X. Still have a month before NCAAs.
Sheets won't respond...he'll get majored by David Carr, which why him winning tonight was important.
