Trump: "Why do we want people from these sh*thole countries coming here?"

Wasn't this behind closed doors? Isn't that why there is no actual recording of him saying this? Isn't this all hearsay from Sen. Durbin? So isn't this a he said / she said situation as Trump has come out and denied it? It seems to come down to whether you believe Durbin or you believe Trump. Another left v right argument.

The media has blown it up to get everyone on both sides of the aisle worked up for ratings.

A source familiar with the meeting told CNN's Jake Tapper the President did not refer to Haiti as a "shithole" country but Trump did ask why the US needs more Haitians and pushed to "take them out" of the deal. In a separate part of the conversation about the diversity visa lottery, the source said, Trump referred to people coming from Africa as coming from "shithole countries."
Arizona Republican Sen. Jeff Flake, who was briefed by Illinois Democratic Sen. Dick Durbin and a fellow GOP Senator who attended the meeting, confirmed that version of events to CNN.

Come on. You know he said it. It isn't just Durbin.

Durbin should know what a shithole looks like. He's a Senator from the state which is rapidly approaching bankruptcy and has it's largest city as the nation's murder capital. Poor economy and high crime is the definition of a shithole.

Someone from Oklahoma is participating in regional snobbery now. Rich.

Its demeaning to the Presidency for him to comment in this manner and for it to come out in the public. It's true that what he said was behind closed doors, but it's also true that he should be more circumspect about what he says and the way he says it, as POTUS. Of course, that's not his style. Certainly not my cup of tea as to what I want to see out of my President.

It's also true that many of the people who claim to be so super offended by Trump's language go around either wearing vagina costumes on the street or applauding those that do and frequently refer to their political opponents as Teabaggers (and worse) in public.

It's also true that what Trump said is in no way, in and of itself, racist. Crude and un-presidential-- absolutely. Offensive -- probably to many. But racist is a figment of liberal hysteria and perhaps opportunism.

Also true: many of the countries in question are, not to put too fine a point on it, in fact, shit-holes. That's the very reason a lot of the folks from places like Somalia want to come here and why they need waivers to do so.

Here (IMO) is some pretty clear headed analysis of the situation:

Bonus -- here is a past POTUS speaking in his own charming way:

Whether or not you want to consider his words to be racist. He keeps stepping in the same sinkhole. Here are some of his best quotes.

“Yeah, I never liked the guy. I don’t think he knows what the **** he’s doing. My accountants in New York are always complaining about him. He’s not responsive. And it isn’t funny. I’ve got black accountants at Trump Castle and at Trump Plaza. Black guys counting my money! I hate it. The only kind of people I want counting my money are short guys that wear yarmulkes every day. Those are the kind of people I want counting my money. Nobody else.”

“Besides that, I’ve got to tell you something else. I think that the guy is lazy. And it’s probably not his fault because laziness is a trait in blacks. It really is. I believe that. It’s not anything they can control. . . . Don’t you agree?”

When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending the best. They’re not sending you, they’re sending people that have lots of problems and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bring crime. They’re rapists… And some, I assume, are good people.”

“Our great African-American President hasn’t exactly had a positive impact on the thugs who are so happily and openly destroying Baltimore.”

He suggested that some of the neo-Nazis who marched in Charlottesville, Virginia, were “good people,”

At this point the racism angle is irrelevant to me. He's just hateful and stupid. Taking a shot at entire countries like that only makes us more enemies. He pounds people that are already down and out because they're easy targets, it's just who he is.

Cussing is fine. Insulting people that are poor as hell and just want to get an opportunity is what's offensive to me. It's not good diplomacy, it creates enemies, and it's an awful influence for kids. If he wants to talk blue behind the scenes or whatever I could personally care less. I dont' even care if he publicly salts it up a little bit for specific purposes. But using that language to insult allies and countries that look up to us?
Why don't people from Norway emigrate to the United States? Because to Norwegians, you, Donald, are president of a sh*thole country.
Please elaborate on this observation. What makes the United States a shithole country vis a vis Norway? What and where are the shithole conditions in the U.S. that don't have an equal in Norway? Specifics, please.

I'm glad I have a president who cares more about the citizens of the United States than illegal aliens from shithole countries, and who doesn't travel around the world on apology tours to shithole countries apologizing for the United States.

Salvadoran households have a median income of 50,000. 34 percent have a mortgage. They have a higher percentage of their labor force than the native population.

A. Hard to tell since you can't form a coherent sentence.
B. What does that have to do with El Salvador or any other country being a so called shithole?

Why would we shrink our own economy to send them back to a place they won’t be able to get jobs at right now anyway? They’re paying taxes. You don’t just eliminate law-abiding taxpayers, regardless of where they came from.

So some American, such as yourself (just by way of example), could improve his/her standard of living?

The fact that there's been literally zero media celebration of black unemployment reaching an all time low under Trump (and Latino homeownership reaching an all time high).

Speaks loud and clear.

We can’t replace those jobs like you and others on this board seem to believe is possible. That’s not how it works lol.

Carry on.
So, you're saying, if a foreign worker leaves, an American can't replace them? Is that because some Americans are too ****ing lazy to work as hard as an average Salvadoran?

Would it surprise you to learn that Lindsey Graham said publicly that people crossing our southern border to come into the USA live in "hellholes"?

Edited: It was actually Lindsey Graham that said it.

Talking about racists...here are some gems from LBJ. I wonder when they are gonna statue and name erase him from public view.

So, LBJ was a racist.

Hopefully you realize that the Civil Rights Act was passed during his presidency.

Do you think it is possible that progress has been made, in the area of treating all people as equal, over the course of the last 50 years?

To justify Trump's racist comments by saying, "what about Lincoln" or "what about LBJ" is disingenuous/partisan/naive/racist.

Question to the libs on the board:

Are you whining because he used the word shithole or because he told the truth about these 3rd world countries and the quality and contribution that the vast majority provide to our economy? If the former, then go on and whine, and I'll proceed to the next thread. If the latter, I'd love a solid debate on how immigrating peoples from these areas over individuals from more educated and civilized (like Norway) is a benefit to America.

While these comments are blunt and some inarticulately stated, NONE of them are racist.
