I agree with you I came on a scholarship to America and worked every summer to be able to live comfortably. What the scholarship paid for living expenses was barely enough to pay rent and eat.

Well, it's a matter of two things in my estimation:
1) If the model requires a broad based risk pool (the insurance model) then that means the young and healthy generally have to subsidize the health care of the sick and old. The U.S. taxpayer can subsidize the largest, best, healthiest risk pool of anybody anywhere anytime and they should in lieu of allowing private enterprise to skim profits, produce nothing, and just act as a huge parasite sitting in the middle of the industry helping noone except the parasite.
2. You can't allow the health insurance industry to take the best risks and leave the worst risks to the taxpayer and then say that government health care doesn't work. Government has been insuring the old and sick forever -- if you let them have the young and healthy in their risk pool they'll deliver the coverage cheaper. Unless Aetna or BC/BS is going to treat you more fairly?
