Exactly, the political activists masquerading as journalists make the lead in to sound like he was arrested for playing cowboys and Mexicans on the border, when in fact he was arrested for being a felon in possession of a firearm. Twist the story, until it fits the narrative then report on the twisted version.

My question would be, how could they not know the guy had firearms being a militia leader and whatnot. What, was he leading the first ever militia movement using squirt guns? Wonder what law enforcement knew before the arrest? This guy being the dumbass he is for being in possession of a weapon with a felon conviction surely hasn't hidden his proclivity for owning a firearm (probably received illegally) that well previously and probably should have been clipped way earlier.
