Here’s a hypothetical. Fifteen years from now President AOC rules that in the name of protecting us from the clear emergency of global warming no automobiles will be allowed to operate in the US. Only public transportation will be permitted. She has decreed that global warming is an absolute crisis and as previous presidents have done she is using her executive authority to outlaw automobiles as the only sure way of combating it. You will surely squeal that it's outrageous, but sys will applaud the move and tell you to live with it. Is that an outlandish hypothetical? Maybe, maybe not. It is not impossible for a democracy to turn into a dictatorship. Honoring a “strong leader that is standing up to our do-nothing representatives” is a sure way to kiss our freedom goodbye.

Yep. And then Congress would vote to terminate the emergency (just like this one did) and something as absurd as your analogy likely gets enough votes to pass an AOC veto unlike what occurred here, and if not, then we'll get 4 years of car-less society and the Democratic party will suffer their worse election defeat since Dukakis. Democracy would still work.

I would just say this. Remember when Trump claimed he had been surveiled (wire tapped) and everyone lost their minds. Well... he was right. Think what you may about the guy but he’s privy to ALL the information. There’s a pattern of him saying controversial things like this that later turn out to be prescient.

When the dems raised the "what goes around comes around" narrative they stated two scenarios. One was the global warming national emergency declaration and another was confiscation of guns national emergency declaration. Notice that they have all rallied around the global warming scare. Could it be they figured out a national emergency declaration to confiscate guns might be prohibited by the 2nd amendment?
