I’m sure LeBron isn’t shedding any tears in his Dom Perignon over Trump calling him stupid.
nope
but the outrage is strong
in the association you’d say scoreboard
in politics you’d say maga

I agree LeBron isn’t immune from criticism...but the over the top reaction to what LeBron said (which was REALLY tame and measured) reveals quite a bit about the character of both men.
Exactly. Only his ardent supporters would praise him going after LeBron. I'm not a fan of James in any way, but I respect him. Hard not to with what he has done both on and off the court.
Just more evidence of Trump's rampant narcissism.
My biggest complaint about board lefties in recent months is that most of you have turned a particular sort of vile. No extension of graciousness (see your example), dodginess and intellectual dishonesty (@syskatine) . It's as if most of you are taking the lead of @CSCOTTOSUPOKES . It reflects in periphery in how you conduct yourselves here. It’s funny to watch the same set of people lick his boots in a rush to defend or rationalize him too.
The pushback from Trump is against Lebron's attempt to frame or normalize (hate that word) the behavior of the NFL players kneeling, passing the consequence of that behavior (division) from the players to the President.“He’s using sports to kind of divide us” is tame and measured to anyone but the broflakeist of broflakes or someone that suffers from Trump Deification Syndrome.
That presumes quite a bit of what you think is going on. I didn't realize mind-reading was a real thing.

The "I like Mike" portion of the Trump tweet is a double entendre, both referencing the GOAT debate between Jordan and Lebron and also to Jordan's choice to largely stay apolitical with the circulated "Republicans buy sneakers too" remark and not endorsing Dem candidates.
Outrage?
No...no outrage that I’ve seen here.
Criticism isn’t the same thing as outrage.
As far as scoreboard, LeBron is winning this exchange so far in my book.
It doesn’t involve a single bit of mind reading whatsoever. It states an opinion as to what the respective statements reveal about the individual.
You stated that in a very coherent, rational, and reasonable way...which reveals something about your character to me as well....the same way Trump’s statement revealed something about his character to me.
Well, this is incredibly benign, though we may disagree on what the ultimate goal of the tweet is (thereby assessing its efficacy as something by which to discern character differently).
I have no objection.

I don’t think we disagree on what the ultimate goal of the tweet probably is that much.
For me, character can be revealed in the means by which a person pursues their goals as well.

I ultimately think how James responds will largely steer the NBA into or away from the choppy waters currently experienced by the NFL
You crack me up, easily the funniest poster on this board.
In essence, that tweet can be somewhat summed up by the following gif.
And whether baiting your opponent is of slimy character or not, it invites them to respond with who they are or what they represent. Because that is the case, I personally don't think it's slimy but more of a public service... the conversation will take place and consequences will manifest themselves.

Are you asking me?Political view and social stance are not the same thing.
What has Lebron said that is so bad? Most of what he says has to do with Trump trying to divide us and his mis steps around the racist in Virginia
Same here.
I just don't think it's a big deal to smack talk someone who is actively doing you (and by extension, the position and people supporting it) a disservice.
I don't believe a single voter changed sides over the tweet, which is par for the course.
I ultimately think how James responds will largely steer the NBA into or away from the choppy waters currently experienced by the NFL.
Since around 2006, when things really ramped up on the left against Bush, the Left has pushed politics into every avenue of life. They WANT it that way. Back then because social issues largely favored them, so it was to political/electoral advantage.
But politics in everything sucks. Just sucks. It oughtta be like the 20% backburner of things, except for the 6 month run-up to the next election.
Trump is creating a scenario for the Dems/Leftists that had already been created for the Reps/right: potential consequence for tying your business/industry to a political view. The NBA needs to be careful not to escalate this new conversation too much.
In the end, my desire (and I believe Trump's desire) is for companies/industries to take a step back re: taking blunt political stances (and restrain themselves to focusing singularly on the needs of the consumer). Family, past times, community, etc...ALL more important and fulfilling.

I agree with just about everything you say here with two caveats:
-politics being pushed into every aspect of life has pretty consistently been an aspect of both the leftists and the right and MAGA...WAR ON CHRISTMAS (insert eye roll here) and others come to mind;
-I disagree re: Trump’s desire in your last paragraph. I believe HIS desire is for companies/industries to take a step forward re: taking blunt political issues....him and his. He has never struck me as someone whom is okay with anything less than that from anyone. Thus the regular disproportional (IMO) response to anyone who questions him or disagrees with him.
I understand the mindset of upping the ante and smack talk...it’s just not the mindset I would prefer to see from our leaders...and criticizing it isn’t fairly characterized as “outrage”.
I feel like I’ve had a fairly high level, reasonable, respectful discussion with you on this topic and have enjoyed it. So thanks.
I’m okay with being McCoy if you wanna be Kirk.![]()
Hahaha I almost typed that I was Kirk. Awesome!

nah bro you rolling like sulu
Is that tweet an accurate representation of what Jordan said. Jordan said he supported LBJ and that he is dong great things for his community. I don’t see anywhere in which Jordan said he sided with LBJ over Trump. Now, he probably does, but this is poor journalism.

Its like he is doing everything he can to lose the midterms.
I can't wait for his meltdowns as a powerless lame duck.
You are super invested in "outrage", why is that? Why can't an observation just be an observation? It's like you feed off anger, real or perceived.nope

Was PT Barnum a businessman in your eyes as well?trump is not a politician...he's a businessman.
