Syria: Quagmire or winnable war?

The ME is always going to be a cluster. Wipe out isis, some other radical group will emerge, wipe them out, same thing. I say let them wipe themselves out or let Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq and others deal with it. obama sent people over there to train the locals and the number went down to like 5 interested. Less than 50 special ops guys aren't going to do it. Wast of time. Another puss effort by obama.

Unwinnable, period...those 50 (or whatever it is and I tend to think its more) won't make much difference. Hopefully no one gets captured and we witness them getting their head sawed off. This is almost like how Kennedy got started in Vietnam. A few here, a few there, from 50 to 500 to 1000 start taking a few casualties, then some drummed up event (Gulf of Tonkin) and you commit a division and bingo because no matter what happens you can't win POLITIOCALLY! Since you can win militarily but not POLITICALLY, time to egress the place and let them kill each other off. Help them raise ambient to 2000F, best thing that could happen.

It's not winnable with the rules of engagement they've handed the troops and the Coward-in-Chief directing the "war". In order to have any hope of winning they would first need to let the military have the freedom to fight an unrestricted and merciless war. If they hide in a Mosque---level the Mosque. War is Hell and must be fought without regard to sensitivities---otherwise, don't go if you're not willing to kill people and break things. One thing about FDR/Truman, we fought WWII with the intent and will to win at all costs. We haven't fought that way since. Oh, and you don't bring the press along. If they want to chronicle what is happening they are on their own at their own risk.

Of course it is winnable with a leader with the fortitude to win it. There is no doubt in my mind that our military could wipe out any group they wanted to.

No matter what happens though those animals can't govern themselves.

Agree. But, even GWBush had our troops fighting handcuffed with a multitude of rules of engagements.

I think this indicates that they are going to really step up the air campaign. 50 special ops guys will at least be able to give good target info. It is my understanding that a good number of the small number of flights they are currently flying come back with their payloads.

Bullshit! We've been lied to for so long about (insert Middle East name), and anything else for that matter; whoTF would believe this crap? The game is called "kick the can"; it's all about his legacy now, and he'll do nothing that will tarnish the golden turd he'll leave for the next president.

Unwinnable, pointless, waste of resources, further bogs us down --- good for the military industrial complex only.

Eunuch in Chief is trying to save face since Putin has made him look like a sloppy vagina.

As expected from the Eunuch in Chief, always leading from behind. Another red line of bullshit. "A shift in policy, not a change." Same mindset as "I did not have sexual relations with that woman." Liberals are sociopathic liars.

Fifty special ops personnel on the ground is an insult to "leading from behind". God forbid, but someone is going to get captured/beheaded due to the idiot's cluelessness. Shift in policy my ass, Pvt. squat-to-pee hasn't had, doesn't have, nor ever will have anything resembling a "policy" other than "run out the clock". As Gundy said it so well, makes me want to puke!

Right on to that.
