So the roster…….

Does this look pretty accurate to you guys?

Oklahoma State fans could see the following starters next season in Stillwater (highest NCAA finish in parentheses):

141: Jamison (R32)

149: William (R16)

157: Travis (R16)

165: Fish (R12)

Carrol will be the guy at 197. He took the 1 seed to sudden victory in the Olympic trials.

How does it shake out if we land Alirez?
Carroll at 197
Alirez at 141

Plott under DT might finally crack the Kerk puzzle.

That is four all Americans and four possible finalists. If we get the Alirez kid someone is going to need to tamper my expectations.
I think we will be real good but that goes for all of us. I think with this team, in a duel, we could be competitive with PSU, and I mean not a complete blowout. I think this team puts us ahead of Iowa though. They have some pretty good wrestlers coming back after suspension.
Next year will be fun.

Agreed. Maybe they train a lot with the US Olympic Training Center? I know the Army spends lots of time at the NLWC.

I just found this snippet ...

"Morgan McIntosh Begins Training with the NLWC as part of the U.S. Army World Class Athlete Program. Former Penn State 3X All-American and NCAA finalist Morgan McIntosh joined the U.S. Army and became a Green Beret after his graduation from Penn State. Also an outstanding freestyle competitor, Morgan is now back on the mat and training with the NLWC as a member of the U.S. Army World Class Athlete Program."

So if the Air Force has such a World Class Athlete Program as well, they could potentially send Wyatt to OSU to train as a member of their program. Essentially the Air Force pays OSU to have Wyatt train at the CWC upon graduation. That could be a strong pull for Wyatt.
Can you imagine Morgan McIntosh being a green beret? Dude would be a beast.

Can't encourage everyone enough: Just enjoy the ride. OSU will get to #35 and beyond; and that will bring things with it. This is an important, fun phase.

Better to be the Hunter or the Hunted? Lets find out.
Well, what the h&ll are we going to do with the name of our forum?! I would be miffed if we have to rename everything. 😉

Somewhere I remember hearing that Jamison wants to go to 149 but can he beat Williams. This could leave a spot for Carter Young at 141 if he can make the cut. We have lots of depth now. Also does anyone know if Ren Sakamoto is still coming to Stillwater with the coaching changes and if he has wrestled freestyle this last year for Japan.

Sakamoto was with Hughes this weekend

How good do we think Hughes can be this year? Is he on the level Daton Fix was on as a freshman? Or should we expect growing pains?

Somewhere in between. He has a very high ceiling, though unfair to expect him to be Daton’s level at the same age.

Evan Frost will be the guy to beat in the Big 12, he had a solid first season last year. Hoping Hughes’ first season is somewhere along those lines.

Also, don’t anticipate him being career 133.

If you've followed DT's career, and I assume 99% of you have, he is a big believer in wrestling at your ideal weight to maximize strength and cardio for an entire tournament. Not one match but a tournament. How many guys who are sucked down do we see each year do well in regular season but have a tough time wrestling 5-8 times over three days in March? CaliNittany posted stats from Nationals since 2012 on the Iowa board that showed that among the top 9 teams listed, OSU had the worst record when it came to W/L % on medal matches (1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th). I attribute some of that to too many guys sucking down (or sucking down incorrectly) rather than be at the correct weight for them. You'll see a philosophical change here, and if that puts two guys at the same weight, so be it. Better that than have the annual negative surprise in March.

A good nutritionist on staff that understands wrestling recovery would be great.

Still really confusing who we might wrestle between 133 - 157. Multiple contenders for each spot.
No confusion at all. If you add Alirez, he's your starter at 149.

133 - Hughes
141 - Jamison
149 - Williams
157 - Travis

I don't see Carter Young beating out Jordan Williams. DT's approach to training is going to be a breath of fresh air for him. And he was already better than Young last year.

I agree with you here only thing I can say differently is the best Carter Young has ever looked was when he was working with Kennedy.. So maybe he gets hime back to that level

If we get Alirez, is Teague safe at 157 or do we think Williams can bump up? I personally think Teague is safe but if Williams has the strength for 157 then idk.

Fair point.

I'm really not sure if your fans understand just how big this is going to be. If the current roster stays intact - you're finishing 2nd. The development is going to be insane.

williams short horsepower
making AA is a great season for travis
can’t count out carter young
alirez is a national champ

and i don’t see jamison sucking down to 41 on DT team

1st world problems!!!

Penn st guy posted about how Penn states program doesn’t like to push people to cut tons of weights. We could see guys moving up in weight.

Guys the ONLY reason Jamison will go 141 is because that's what the team needs him to do. Tagen is a quiet easy going kid that gets along with everyone. Right now hes walking around mid 160s and his strength is somewhere between Danny Hodge and Jesus. The plan for him with the previous coaches was to bump up to 149 and JW go 157. This happened after Tagen got up around 155 or so and one of the coaches wrestled him and quickly realized that he was a completely different animal when he wasnt sucked down.

From what I understand the new staff thinks pretty highly of him as well and are impressed with his strength. Jamison needs to stay healthy and add a few things to his arsenal but he's all in and if hes 149 I definitely think he AAs.

That being said If we don't get Alirez someone is sucking down to 141. Tagen or Carter.

It's fun to talk line up but realistically no one knows. Hate to say it but there's still a chance we lose some guys. Coach Taylor has said if someone wants to leave he will sign whatever he needs to in order to let them leave. Also our new captain is absolutely going to run a tighter ship. Some guys could leave or be removed due to a lack of dedication.

Also, is Trevor Mastro still in Stilly? Anyone think he might stick his head in the room and say hi?

Weight has been a know issue at OSU for years. Definitely an old school approach
