Gabe also certed at 174 and then decided to stay at 184. Cutting down and not winning the spot and going back up was something he didn't want to do obviously. I think we see him at 79kg (174) this summer for freestyle

I think Dee is a difference maker possibly winning multiple National Championships. Most wrestlers you can replace as our recruiting grows but Lockett is rare and so you do not want to waste a year of his eligibility with no chance for the team to do well.

That kid has spent more hours in an RTC than any kid ever, in the history of RTCs. He's more than ready. Even if it is at 174.
But I do agree he's ready to win and challenge at 165. Only guy with the athleticism to challenge Mesenbrink.
Lockett is going to make a run at the Senior World team. 74 is an absolute wasteland now.
And that's exactly why he's a 165 and not a 174. If you don't RS a talent like him you gotta feel confident he can win a title in year 1. My opinion is he would be giving up some size at 174 and using a RS would probably make more sense if he thinks he's a 174
Love Lockett. No one I enjoy watching more, but if he is going to compete with Mesenbrink, he'll have to vastly improve his conditioning.

Imo get transfers to let guys RS. In two years you have Dee, Robideau, Vega, Ramirez, Routledge, Jax and Ross with 4 years eligibility. I’m sure we will get another stud or two either straight up recruiting or flips. Skys the limit. Those guys will be the base for the DT era. You will also still have Spratley and Jamison to help lead the way. Merrill will have 3 years eligibility.

I am just a big fan of RS'ing guys anyway. That one year of brain power supersedes almost any level of horsepower, but the horsepower almost always improves also.

100% agree. Similar role as Bo, Dee is our recruiter. He’s not as active on social media, he may not even know he fills that role, but he’s our man, and we need him front and center.
I don't know if we will ever beat Penn. St. but we can't win next year and so I would get a transfer and redshirt Dee for the reasons I said. In 2 years unless they redshirt Haines and Van Ness they will not be there in 2 years because they are juniors. I take feedback from our fans with a grain of salt. I don't take the advice from our enemies very seriously. Yes, their potential lineup is intimidating but our lineup in 2 years could be Spratley or Sakamoto, Forrest, Hughes or Vega, Jamison, Travis or Robideau, Routledge and or Lockett at 65 or 74, Thompson, Merrill and Ross. We are younger than Penn. St I want Lockett in the lineup when we can threaten for 35 or 36 or 37 or 28. Get my point because next year we won't be challenging for 35. But the next 4 years I think we can challenge if we have great coaches.
Watch his run at Ironman. Ever since the coaching change - he's a different man. His tank is going to be just fine under DT.
Haines would need a RS to be there I messed that one up .But Van Ness will be with his medical RS he has 2 years remaining after this one.
I agree I would RS Lockett regardless he's not beating Mesenbrink at 165 next year and will be a small 174 and Haines will be back. Have 4 years of Jax, Lockett and Ross in the line up together
I think the only “problem” with that is without another yuge portal haul, that leaves next year’s lineup in a position to backslide a bit with respect to team performance at NCAAs (and in duals).
Now if a “down” year means being in position to make Penn State and Carl sweat in 3-ish years, I think I can talk myself into dealing with it. However if the coaches are as competitive as everyone says and they always want to win, it may be a hard sell to keep guys in redshirt who are clearly better than the starter.
They could also end up plucking another 3-4 studs from the portal and this all be moot. Whose to say.
