NCAA PORTAL

If he was in Stillwater this past weekend and was "shopping" around then he clearly isn't happy with his current situation. He either did this because he wants to leave and or wanted some leverage to negotiate. What did Ryan do to make things right? Did they just pay him off to stay? That doesn't help the situation if the kid wants to wrestle IMO.

Which is exactly why a player (at a top 5 program) that shops around should be dropped. This is at best toxic to the culture right? I may be very “get off my lawn” with this take but I just wouldn’t want a kid to be doing this during season. Off season with the current rules I’m gonna just look the other way because it’s here now but mid season is a bad look.

I definitely isn’t good. I would expect the NCAA to address some of these problems pretty soon. You will see some of the big money this year, but it isn’t sustainable, especially programs that are throwing huge cash at athletes that don’t pan out.

I agree. If Ryan had balls, he would have taken the temporary hit by releasing Welsh for the long term gain in clarity for the entire team. Ryan looks weak here.

IMO it’s like if an employee comes to you and says “Hey I’ve got a job offer from X, and they’re going to pay me Y. If you can’t match or exceed that, I’m out.”

Doesn’t matter whether you stay or go in that moment. As soon as you say it you’ve started a clock on your time there because it’s known you’re looking for an exit and aren’t bought in. May be a month, may be a year or two. Either way, tick tick tick.

BINGO. Management 101. Anyone who talks about leaving is already mentally gone. I would think someone of Ryan's age would already know that. You don't negotiate with terrorists. Welsh is a terrorist in Ryan's program. No bueno.

Y'all sure are drawing a lot of conclusions from a Mineo post. Don't give that guy that much power lol
I wouldn’t have said a word if Welsh hadn’t tweeted basically confirming stuff was happening. After that, it’s fair game to draw conclusions.
