Cancelling the Mizzou visit after seeing UM is concerning...let's hope proximity to home and D MF'n T are able to persuade him to the good guys.

Was Wyatt's visit pre-Taylor or did he meet with David? Does Wyatt have int'l aspirations or is this his last hoorah before going into the military? If it's his last hoorah, it may be a quick money grab.

It was pre Taylor.
It seemed like he went quite awhile between the Minny and Michigan visits, but maybe it just seemed like forever because I’ve been so pumped up. Is there a chance he slipped back down to Stillwater to meet with DT? Or hosted a visit from the boys

I’m sure they’ve been in touch; and, not that this would be the only reason for hiring him…this makes the Caldwell stuff make more sense.

So here’s some things Wyatt said himself.. Did meet with Ok St prior to Coach Taylor. He also said Coach Taylor was one of his heroes growing up. Additionally, wherever he chooses will be a 2 year program to finish his degree but only 1 year of wrestling eligibility.

You’d have to think we are the favorites but I am worried about Michigan….they will spend the money, they have great grad programs, and he would have current Olympic bound Parris to wrestle with. Still think it’s us but I’m sure it’s close.
Yeah leaves you to wonder if he took the Michigan visit and then decided this is where I’m going. Could be why no Mizzou visit. I would assume Mizzou didn’t just say no thanks and move on. All speculation.

Def makes sense but I’m hopeful he took Michigan visit and thought to himself it’s def between OSU and Michigan, so why waste anyone’s time haha.

OU picked up Belton from Oregon state. Made the blood round last year at 141. Beat Jamison when we wrestled them. Also lost to Bartlett in SV. Good snag.
I wonder if that means Mosha Schwartz is going back down to 133? He’s already announced he’s coming back too.
They also got Gavin Sax who’s primed to break out (will make an interesting dynamic with Piccolo). They’ve got a good coach; bet they continue to improve incrementally.

OU also got WWE legend Mark Henry’s son, Jacob. I’m interested to see how he does in college. Was a stud football player & wrestler in high school.

Some schools are more comfortable with a mercenary culture than others. It changes the amount of money they’re willing to spend on a one year guy.
Exactly, I still think DT is a guy that’s looking long term and trying to build a good culture with it.

I guarantee Michigan threw a bag at Hendrickson and I don’t think that’s a precedent that DT wants to set?

I could be wrong and I hope we get him!

What is the difference between Izzak Olejnik, Dean Hamiti, etc., and a mercenary?

What is the difference between Bernie Truax, Gabe Dean, Mitchell Mesenbrink, that guy who was literally on a coaching staff and came back (can’t think of his name right now) and a mercenary?

OSU was pursuing Hendrickson before the coaching change and is still pursuing him.

This idea that they won’t pursue people because of culture issues when OSU has started doing it in earnest and Penn State has been doing it gratuitously seems unfounded.

The best wrestlers in the world need to be at OSU. It’s going to be an Olympic/World Training ground.

The styles and methods of talent acquisition have changed.

You both have valid points imo. Transfer acquisition is now part of the college landscape, as much as I detest it myself. There is a difference though between MI and other schools. MI uses transfers to cover up coaching deficiencies imo, and in doing so, destabilize their program long term. I have noticed that few late career transfers meet expectations. Max Dean is the only one that comes to mind that did better. So I'm not sold on the value of transfers unless you need one to get you into a title race and they are replacing someone significantly inferior. The culture cost seems too great otherwise. Just my old school opinion.

The value to me of an Alirez and/or Hendrickson is not to win 2nd place next year but in building the program via the RTC. I think it's important for DT to approach the team culture first and add via transfer that support the longer term goal of bringing more quality to Stillwater via the RTC. I doubt you'll get knee jerk reactions from Taylor.

How does the NIL work? I know what it is but who actually pays the money? I did not think it was paid directly from the schools but from businesses. Like when Daton signed with that local car dealership, and they gave him a 70k GMC truck. That doesn't come from the school but the business, right?

I doubt DT is opposed, in principle, to throwing money at NIL. It is more a question of how he prioritizes his NIL money. Hendrickson is great and if we think we have a better than 10% chance of winning a team title next year, he is worth the money.

If DT sees next year as more of a development year, we are probably smarter to save that money and spend it on someone who can help the program (either as an athlete or in the RTC) more than just one year.

Hendrickson is a unique case in that he is more than a 1 year guy, as he would fill a role in the RTC as mentioned through the next Olympic cycle. This will be attractive to other heavyweights as they will have the opportunity to train with him.

This, and really Alirez as well are far from short term/1 year moves. You have to load your RTC with killers and that attracts to and enhances your college program, while giving your RTC Program international exposure.
