I agree with your points about lack of improvement over the last half of the season. And I agree Plott was disappointing. But, let’s get real about Iowa being a much better team than us. Look, they won the match, fair enough, but a sudden death loss was the difference. If Plott wins, and he easily could have , oSu wins the match 19-18.
It didn’t go that way and yes its painfully disappointing, but it also wasn’t a beat down so we should not act like it was.

I actually picked Surber to upset. Pretty disappointing all the way around but was surprised Luke got dominated like that. I know Buchanan is having a great year but it looks like Luke has stopped pursuing offense and is just trying to counter attack for points. He couldn’t do that tonight and couldn’t ride Buchanan. Buchanan’s offense overwhelmed him. I hope Luke can AA but he’s going to have to score more.
I would say Spratley, Jamison, Hamiti and Wyatt have all continued to improve. Hard to be critical on those guys with solid wins at Hawkeye. Fish isn't very good and neither is Young. I bet this loss stung a little for DT and he does what's needed to rebuild next year.
I think there’s a nonzero chance that last year’s Jamison either ekes out a decision or even loses with the way he ended last year. Last year’s Spratley probably doesn’t get the MD. Let down by some of the results, but I think this roster with last year’s staff (or some version of it) takes a worse loss with a worse showing. I think you’re right on the money that nobody is more pissed about the result than DT and the staff and wrestlers,
125: I was impressed with Spratley but he needed to get that TF.
133: Would there have been any difference with Hughes or Reece. I don’t think so. I’m afraid Reece might have gotten pinned.
141: We got the bonus here but Tagan needs to be more aggressive here early. If he does that, he probably could have gotten the TF.
149: I didn’t expect to give up bonus here which is positive but Parco rarely gets bonus points. Carter couldn’t get out from under Parco tonight. We’ve seen this before and it doesn’t bode well for Nationals.
157: Fish is kinda like Reece in he can be feast or famine. I do think he ended the match well and had Teemer on the ropes but he didn’t see those blast double legs coming. Teemer is a score and ride it out guy. Scoring first and being more offensive probably wins Fish that match.
165: Hope Cam isn’t hurt bad. Him getting dinged up early probably cost us the major but he had no offense. Caliendo is tough and I didn’t expect to win this one but losing by Major was when the cracks started.
174: I’m not sure why DT wanted Dean to continue riding Brands after he got to 1.5 minutes. It looked like Dean was ready to cut him but looked over and was told to ride longer. If Dean goes optional start we probably win by Major at 174.
184: Clearly Ferrari’s stance and style messed with Plott. I was surprised he gave up those singles so easy. Tough ending in SV, I thought we got robbed.
197: Really disappointed and thought Luke would perform better.
285: Really wish we had 3 more years of Wyatt…. I hope he can beat Kerk and make the finals.

Spratley teched Cruz last year 19-2. He was one takedown away from another tech, the results are pretty much the same.
On the podcast this week, Fix mentioned how Plott gives up his legs some and insinuated that could be a problem in this one. And I agree, the reset in SV was crap, but tbh Plott should've already finished the takedown before then

Agreed. Overall disappointed we lost but it came down to one match in OT on the road in a hostile environment.
We dominated at 125, 141, 174, and HWT. Every match we won wasn’t close.
They won a tight matche at 157 and pulled the upset in OT at 184.
Very close match from a team standpoint. Could of gone either way.
Wonder how much money Angelo made himself last night. He should be looking to be the highest paid in that room next year.

Had a chance to sleep it off and think on it. Disappointed at the outcome, especially with HOW the duel was lost, but man aren’t rivalries awesome? Iowa may be my favorite team to hate in college wrestling, and I say that with all the hateful respect I have.

I believe he already had the advantage (on top) and you only get a 4 count for a mat return or your going to get hit with it....Hate the run if you're actively tryingg to improve, not anyone's fault if the other guys is backing up and trying to push you away...
Some of the nitpicking rules need to be revisited....Never seen so much from the ref with regards to hand clinching, happens all the time but last night we were hit with stalling because of it.

Many of you seem to forget that the NCAA tournament is way different than a dual.........duh....right! We will not match up with the Hawks at every weigh necessarily. I see us a a much better tournament team. Maybe orange glasses but 2nd place is still in reach.
Idk if anyone disputed that? I think we pretty much all agree that it will be a few years until we start challenging them
There are not alot of people that can tell you much about Sakamoto, but there has been a lot of excitement. So there are two/three reasons why Sakamoto was sent.
1. He is whooping Reece in the room. Just a thought, 100% have not heard that.
2. Protection of qualification status of Reece for Philly.
3. Load management and weight class issue. If Reece gets hurt, we go into the post season without a 33 that has the criteria. So, whoever were to replace him at the Big Xiis would have to win enough to get an auto-bid.
On the door knocking question. PSU currently has an all-timer team...literally one of the best ever and could break the point record in Philly. There was to be no door knocking in DT era year 1. Realistically, year 3-4 is when we should expect to challenge. But the dual last night showed we are really, really close to Iowa as the #2. A few calls go our way, we win at Carver. We lost at Carver due to an upset with one of our best guys. Give it some time, it's going to be a fun ride!
Another thought as we look to the postseason: curious to see whether Nelson Brands completes his “Joe Smith” arc, I.e. the coach’s son taking over the starting role at the very end of the season only to end up doing diddly squat in the post season.

Anyways credit to Iowa. Also I felt like the Iowa coaches and crowd were pretty tame for this one. Plott's potentially dangerous looked like a crock to me though, neither the leg nor the knee were out to the side.
