Ted Cruz's plan is a good start.
- Doubling the number of federal immigration judges, from roughly 375 to 750.
- Authorizing new temporary shelters with accommodations to keep families together.
- Mandating that immigrant families be kept together, absent aggravated criminal conduct or threat of harm to children.
- Providing for expedited processing and review of asylum cases so that — within 14 days — those who meet the legal standards will be granted asylum and those who do not will be immediately returned to their home countries.
Pretty crappy to use children as a political football or bargaining chip (for either side).
That oughta be a basic value for everyone. I can't believe all the crappy excuses, contradictions and excuses over this deal. Kelley was saying a year ago they were gonna do this. Just blows my mind that people get bogged down with the partisanship.
I think the public has scared politicians over this and won't hear bureaucratic excuses and double talk. Even Ted Cruz has worked up a bill, so you know they're feeling some heat. I've heard 2 different women independently say they called senators. One of them said Inhoffe's office was saying the right things (He's aware, pissed and on it) and Langford's people just pissed her off. These are salt of the earth women that know nothing about immigration or border, and frankly aren't about to -- they're pissed at the kids' treatment though. I was surprised at their impromptu advocacy and how clueless they were about details or background, they just wanted to lay into a politician and get the kids out.
Lankford has been out front of this and speaking publicly against the policy. I've been fairly happy about that.
