HS Recruiting News

I'm still on the fence about Spencer making a good coach.
He'll absolutely have the wrestling resume, which is huge. He would recruit well. If he was a HC, it would obviously be at the University of Iowa. Spencer Lee coaching at Iowa would be successful. However, I think his performance will be very similar to Brands, which despite what a lot of people want to say, is strong, it's not easy to just be a trophy lock every year in a state that honestly doesn't produce the most talent (despite the support of the sport)

If it's one thing that has shown in the recent years, similar to how DT is a lot like his former coach, Spencer is a lot like his coach right now, which isn't a bad thing necessarily but I think limits him from consistently reaching the top.

Also I think Spencer's health will limit him from being a consistent practice partner with his guys, which is huge.

and I stand by Hamiti being the best wrestler — followed by Hendrickson, Spratley, Amine and Jamison — all from the portal. 5 of your 10 starters are from the portal but, somehow Iowa is different.

Now go ahead and pick my post apart and tell me how it’s different but, I think deep down you get my point.

And, I really don’t need a message board moderator telling me how to write a post. You can dish it out but you can’t take it.

Hamiti is the best wrestler on your team. Not sure why that’s so offensive.
If Plott is our 6th best wrestler, we will runaway from Iowa and give Penn St. a bit of a run. I don’t think this will happen but just saying…..

Edit to see that I’m not in the minority

I think this is the issue that is central to my thinking. Spencer seems like a chip off the Brands granite. The Brands are really good coaches, but that coaching style is not being used in the elite gyms and as we have seen, only goes so far. I'm not sure what Spencer did in the room and on the mat is as translatable to this generation of wrestler as the "keep it loose and fun and play wrestle".

If Oklahoma State's 6th best wrestler is a finalist with a 70% bonus rate that was basically his own tier last year outside of the champ, the team race between PSU and Ok State will be nerve wracking as hell this year and is coming even sooner than I foresaw.
I don’t see him making the finals this year. Hopefully, I am wrong because maybe it means Starocci or Keck lost — but, I don’t see him beating either of those two. Seeds are everything at the tournament

But he would be a clear 3rd and bonuser. If the 6th best Oklahoma State wrestler is scoring 16-17 points, that's a massive issue for everyone else lol.

100% For good and bad as we saw at 174 last year when they placed three national champions on the same side. I always find it amusing that wrestling has this intricate mathematical formula for seeding, yet when the brackets come out just before nationals, there are two million posts describing who got the cakewalk to the finals and who got hosed. Mekhi Lewis got royally screwed last year. Got a 3-timer in the quarters and a former champ in the 3rd place match. I can't remember a worse bracket for a #1 seed.

Just seen on Flo that Marcus Blaze's decision will be made tomorrow morning at 730am, Eastern time. It says Penn State, Ohio State, or Purdue.

Marcus was 36 hours late with my prediction. I had him announcing at 7pm Monday. He needs to get his act together lol. Punctuality is important!!

Plott as 6th on this roster is nonsense.

i'd consider banning him for being low IQ

Maybe because those guys were in the portal and not recruited to the portal for compensation? Or, how much are the OSU guys getting versus how much the Iowa guys are getting? Or, were those holes in the lineup due to injury or attrition versus getting the highest placing guy that is listening to pitches?

Just a thought?

Let’s see how it plays out. I will be shocked and admit I was wrong if Plott takes 3rd or better.

As for Okie State and Iowa — both played by the rules so it’s irrelevant. Hamiti was on a plane to Stillwater basically from the NCAA tournament. And, I love Hamiti and think he will be in the finals if not pin it all. Call me crazy.

As for OSU and Iowa, you can thank your lucky stars that DT doesn't believe in buying guys or you wouldn't have a 133.

Talk about sensitive 😂. Everyone here gets an award. The board can bash Iowa but I come on and say Okie State is no different than Iowa and there best wrestler is Hamiti (which he is) and I get “warned.” Oh no.
I am with you there Malos. I thought your post was fine and a worthwhile contribution to the conversation. Please realize, my opinion means nothing.

He may not place 3rd or better, but he isn't the 5th p4p guy in the room. We can place a little friendly wager, loser donates to the shoes for kids thing somebody does on these forums?

I wouldn't be so sure Iowa played by the rules, but I guess I will concede and so that I cannot be sure they didn't.

Unfortunately a federal judge without any expertise whatsoever opened the barn door to chaos. It would have been nice if everyone had listened to the angel on their shoulder, but one team listened to the devil.

Damn Okie State — they should have never pilfered Hamiti and Hendrickson like that.

I like this board as well I just hope it doesn't turn into opinions getting warnings that's all. The conversation here is good and rarely gets out of hand.
I see what you’re saying. It’s a good point. Dude was looking to cause trouble. I think Atownpoke had cause. There is no need for people to come here to start crap. Listening to Willy on a recent podcast, he even called out Iowa’s message board as toxic and that is the reason people don’t want to share info there. Conversation and debate is always welcome, attacking is not

Bro. I was KINDA with you on the Hamiti train. But it would be because you THINK he's going to be the best scorer on the team this year. Plott, Hendrickson and Amine have all had better careers thus far than him.

Now there has been some speculation that Hamiti is the "best" guy in the room P4P - and I've seen some people make posts regarding such - including someone saying Hamiti smashed Plott in a first to 50 go or something. That didn't happen. Hamiti and Plott ARE close in the room, but Plott wins pretty much every time. Close, but he's the better guy.

Hendrickson is going to score the most points on the team, followed by Hamiti/Plott. To list Amine ahead of Plott is sheer lunacy and there is nothing to justify that. Amine wins decisions - and doesn't really get big wins until NCAAs. Do I think that will change? yup. But he still isn't outscoring Plott.
Honestly, Hamiti could be the best guy in the room and under DT he may show that. It will be a stacked year for most all our top wrestlers. Specially, since Gable is returning 🔥

I mean Drakes situation at Iowa is pretty hard to beat. He’s getting paid, he’s with his brother/Iowa raised, his partner is the best 57kg guy in the US, his coaches are Olympic/World gold medalist, Olympic bronze and World gold medalist, and Dan Dennis another Olympian.

... and yet, despite all that, you can thank your lucky stars that DT doesn't believe in buying guys. Drake was available for purchase. I'm not trolling either. Like I've said in other threads, what goes around comes around.

What’s the bet? Happy to donate to charity if I lose !!!

I will absolutely bet Plott doesn’t place too 3 — all in good fun. Nothing against Plott at all. Sure he’s a great kid but I just don’t see it happening. Would be glad to be proven wrong.

I still hold that Hamiti, Hendrickson and Amine are better wrestlers — I may have gotten a little carried away with Spratley. I do think Spratley has a better chance of making the finals than Plott. 25 is wide open and all those kids can beat each other.

You know after thinking about it. I agree with you about Plott. He will definitely not take 3rd because he’ll be winning his first national title.

Who are the 3 at 184 better than Plott? If you say Carter and keck, I could agree. Who is the third?

I'll take that bet.

If I win, I get to give a stern warning while
Appreciate that. They don't like tough posting over on GIA-hawkeye bacon.
A bunch of oranges over there.
