HS Recruiting News

Did anyone see DT's take on the recruiting and wrestlers flipping their commits to OK State? He said it perfectly. He and his staff came in late. Recruits are flipping because of it. He said something that Cael told him "don't take things personal!" DT is doing a great job!

Strike while the iron is hot, and we are HOT🤠🔥🔥🔥

I can't keep track of all the wrestlers that have given a pledge to the Cowboys. Would someone in the know construct a list of those coming next year & the year after that? Are there any young commits beyond the next two years? Thanks

Robideau and Vega are higher than that now. Both top 10.

You have to filter through the different articles and compile the different rankings. Willie hasn’t updated the ‘25 big board so the D1 commit page is off.

And the only kids who change much are top 25 P4P like Dee, Vega, Robideau etc anyway. So we won’t know where the Goffs and Guerrero’s of the class stand until the final big board anyway.

I’ll also add that on the top P4P all classes list which only has twenty five spots

Dee # 4
Lando # 11
Vega # 13
Kody #19

And Ronnie is probably just outside by a spot or two

Also we have Rocklin Zinkin committed for 2026. He’s currently 22nd in the 2026 big board on Flo.

Interesting to see Sam Herring on that list. I always thought he would stay east and not consider out here👍🏻

How does the quality of that list stack up against prior years recruiting? I guess my ultimate question is, did less quality visit OSU the last few years or did the staff not land similar quality recruits.

Well, our 2023 was number 1 class in the country with 3 top wrestlers Cael Hughes, Brayden Thompson and Christian Carroll. In 2024 we got 2 top recruits in Cody Merrill and Sakamoto. 2025 is a great class, however we need to beat Penn. St. for at least 1 of the superstars in 2026 or they will keep quite a distance between us and them. I hope Ohio State gets Blaze if we don't. We need to get Jax to join our other Superstar Lockett. With great development we have a bunch of other superstars possible Merrill, Thompson, Robideau, Vega and Hughes.

I’ve felt this way for awhile. We all know they are loaded. A couple more and it’s going to be tough to catch them. In the end we just get the best we can get and hope Coach Taylor & Co can take these guys to the highest of levels. Psu will have the advantage on paper but if there’s any misses on their part we have a chance.

And while it’s a dream scenario until we’ve actually seen how this team develops under the new staff… it could end up being good vs good in the years to come. The possibilities are there for us at nearly every weight (with more to come). We could find ourself toe to toe in big matches up and down the lineup come NCAAs.

Exactly. How crazy will h2h matches between these two programs be every year come march? Exciting to think about.

@Pennstate1985 is on board withe the "we." :)

I like you guys but not that much lol. Cael has missed on a few guys but not many. Gulibon. The Altons (injuries). Nothing glaring that I recall. Cael is just a monster at seeing the future with kids.

He's a witch. If you're OK with that leading your program.

I'm not.

I prayed upon your question for what seemed like an eternity and regrettably I've decided I'm okay with witches.

Willie and Fellers did a good show analyzing the impact of RTCs on overall performance. The best correlator for college success is a robust RTC, not individual and recruiting class rankings. Ohio State is the best example. Their top teams (1, 3, 2, 2, 2) with the second to last 2nd place was their 133.5 team that lost to Penn State happened when they had their RTC buzzing. They actually upped their recruiting level since then if anything but their performance at NCAAs isn't nearly as good. Stieber was an active athlete and their lower weights were killing it, they had Tervel there and Martin, Moore (who was not a highly ranked guy) and Snyder were obviously scoring big points.

Similarly, Dake/Snyder were the big time signees for NLWC but Bekzod and Gomez were boosting our middleweights for years before that.

There are way more good high schoolers these days and the gap is not large at all between the top guys, especially when you consider what ultimately matters is how they perform 2-3 years removed from HS, not senior year of HS or even the first year of college. Ultimately unlocking the talent comes with senior level talent being able to push them and coach them as well (each senior RTC athlete serves as a coach)

DT clearly is prioritizing his RTC first and foremost and it'll pay off ... fast.

Great info. Link to show? I've always believed that RTCs expand the knowledge base for college kids. Variety makes a better outcome. 90% of Iowa RTC are Iowa guys. To me, that's the wrong approach. You bring in a Dake. A Snyder. Makes a difference.

We were getting good recruits but I think it was an old school philosophy with a lack of discipline. Weird combo, I know. With new rules and philosophies, we were failing to innovated. Wrestlers liked to party, plus, they were cutting weight improperly, at least that’s what the word on the street was.

We were stale and performing well below our recruiting, the failure to grasp RTCs or being too afraid of the NCAA in regards to RTCs killed us.

Our anti RTC stance always pissed me off because it made no sense what so ever. My last straw was when our head RTC coach went on a local podcast and said how the RTC athletes wouldn’t help the college kids develop whenever it was well publicized they were in fact helping and preparing them to win matches at every school with an RTC.
