did not watch but listening to all the hoopla this morning it looks like Trump missed opportunities and Clinton may have done better than expected. It's ok to not show up for the first debate, but if Trump does this same thing for the next 2 debates Clinton probably wins...that is unless something else pops it's ugly head up in the Clinton arena.
Clinton really didn't do anything from the 30-40 minutes I watched. She stood there with her smug mug and repeatedly stated the same things we have always heard. Neither one of them answered the questions very well, if at all. Trump mentioned his properties a ton and Clinton mentioned nothing of note period.
Trump was best when he was going after regulations and over regulations and how that is killing businesses and jobs. I really thought he was going to take the debate to her at that point.
He also hammered pretty good on NAFTA and TPP. Backed her into a corner and she squirmed her way out.
I think he completely whiffed on his tax plan answer by talking about the repatriation of capital. He needed to talk about why his plan was good for ME not all these trillions of dollars overseas.
As mentioned earlier in this thread he let her blame trickle down economics on the 2008 economic crash with no rebuttal, he should have been prepared to tie Clinton/democratic fair housing policies, etc to any mention of the 2008 economy. Poor preparation.
His whole stop and frisk was also a mess. I feel he missed an opportunity when Holt mentioned that it had been ruled unconstitutional, he should pointed out that's the kind of judges we get when we elect people like Obama and Clinton, ones more concerned with being politically correct than keeping us safe. True or not it would played well to his base.
As far as Hillary
I thought she did a good job contrasting how Trumps tax plan would would add trillions of dollars to the deficit compared to hers.
Other than that she lacked very little substance, but stuck to her talking points and didn't get rattled. She let Lester Holt do her dirty work and he will be getting a nice gift from the Clinton Foundation this year.
She did great coming back and saying that words matter and we will continue to defend our allies.
She also nicely planted her final attack on Trump making it difficult for him to counter and when actually given the opportunity to counter all he did was ramble some nonsense for a minute.

I'm obviously not crazy about either candidate.
Here's the thing that will drive Hillary supporters nuts about Trump (and did me in the primaries), no matter how poorly you think he did during the debate, polling always seems to indicate that he won.

Lester sucks, just pure and simple. Not sure he had one follow up question for The Hildabeast, what a tool!
When The Hildabeast was busting Trump for tax cuts and she said it would add 3 Trillion to our debt he should have shot back with, "what's 3 trillion, the president you support and who supports you has added more trillions of debt to the US than all the presidents combined before him," "and besides who does your scoring, the same group that said obamacare would pay for itself (or whatever the lie was)."
He also missed a chance to nail her on how little of the money given to the Clinton slush fund, actually makes it to a charity.
And when she was talking about bad business deals, her son-in-law has lost millions of other people's monies on some Greek hedge fund deal.
Trump won by simply not loosing it and doing something crazy. He needs to sharpen the knifes next two chances. She is going to regurgitate the same crap. Plus looming out there is more Wikileaks stuff. IMHO it's now his race to lose.
