Who has been to Dubai?

Been roughly 10-12 times over the past 10 years. What would you like to know?
It’s me and one other guy. We will be coming home from business in India and we are making a three night stop in Dubai.

I read a lot about the local laws like using profanity, public intox, not having a doctor’s letter for your meds, use of smokeless tobacco, etc. how strict are they?

Thinking about staying downtown since it will just be sightseeing and eating/drinking. Any other suggestions? Restaurants? Bars?

I've been there a few times. It's a hotter, sandier version of Houston. There are scattered restaurant and bar areas. If you're coming from India it will feel like paradise. I wouldn't go there for a personal trip though.

How was it?

Made a couple of trips there in the early/mid 80's and I really enjoyed it. Sedco was operator on some drilling there so we had office and personnel for guidance/adult supervision. Yes, I know the 80's isn't current info. :D
Bought some fantastic 18k gold at the market. Can't imagine what the place is like now, has to be off the charts.

One more thing, was a regular jogger back then. Summer in Dubai is not jogging weather. Learned
that the hot way.

I've been there once. Think Vegas without the casinos. Stayed at the Grand Hyatt Dubai.

Don't drink in the western hotels then drive...cops have syringes and will test immediately. Anything north of 0.0% and you'll enjoy an open roof jail in the desert for a year or two.

Check out the Burj-Khalifa....going up there is quite the experience. The infrastructure in the town is pretty phenomenal.

I had some great food on the trip....when I was there you could also call an Uber helicopter if you were flush with cash.
