@HighStickHarry, I agree with your comments regarding "kids" today are consumed with being on the internet, as well as their phones. I have a 20 year old, as well as other family members who are younger, and their overall communications skills, are basically non existence because they live through social media. Social media actually determines how they few themselves.
Ask a kid today to walk to the local convenience store or basically anywhere, which was common, for I am guessing a good portion of this board, and you will get a are you crazy look. Our society is truly sad, no one wants to get involved with other people kids due to parents thinking their kids are just angels, and how dare you correct mine, etc...
Thanks for sharing the link surrounding the background of this kid, sure their were plenty of red flags, warning signs for this kid. I read/saw screenshots that this kid had with someone, the person claims did not know why this kid text her via Snapchat or Instagram, but the communication was scary/odd.
As others have noted, cannot and do not want to know how these heartbroken parents, grandparents, family members are feeling. Their whole lives have been changed by the actions of one individual. Its a shame that we as parents, can no longer feel safe in sending our little ones to school, to Elementary school.
