DJT has told us (and you believe him) that the trade deficit is bad and is evidence that the rest of the world has taken advantage of our good will and has abused us without mercy. He has told us (and you believe him) that the best way to resolve the abuse is to fight fire with fire by slapping exorbitant tariffs on our imports. He has told us (and you believe him) that the tariffs will simultaneously bring so much extra lucre into the US treasury we can eliminate the income tax, while reducing imports to such a low level that American manufacturing jobs will receive a resurgence of such proportions that we will have abundance like we’ve never seen before. Finally he has said (and you believe him) his real purpose is to use his tariffs as a threat to get the rest of the world to negotiate reciprocal tariffs so that we are no longer taken advantage of.

Let’s assume he wins his tariff battles, the world buckles under his masterful negotiating and agrees unanimously to have reciprocal tariffs. Another MAGA win! Question: what will it mean if the trade deficit continues unabated, tariffs are reciprocal but the trade deficit stubbornly remains. In your minds would that tell you the unequal tariff situation under which we currently live was never the cause of the trade deficit in the first place?

Oh, one other thing: on Liberation Day DJT said the world was lining up to "kiss his ass" begging for tariff relief, and he proposed we would see 90 deals in 90 days. Maybe one of you knows the answer; I do not, how many deals has he pushed through so far?

He never answers questions but demands people answer his. Reminds me a lot of my2putas that used to do that very thing. Hmmm. Makes you wonder doesn't it? HamasDan, how many dirty sock accounts do you have? One for each personality? 🤣

I don’t think I’ve made any demands, just respectfully asked what you thought. You either share your opinion on the subject or you don’t. I have just this one account, it’s all I need.

Fűck your “setup”. If you want to ask a question, either ask it or STFU. You should do TED talks, since you clearly love hearing yourself opine on matters that normal people don’t care about.
I don’t know what it is about the topic that engenders such animosity from you, but it certainly struck a nerve. I hope you’re not like the other fellow, I forget his name, who takes bp meds. If you are it might be best if you do like other guys on this board and put me on ignore. I don’t want to be the reason you blow a gasket. I know I ask questions and make comments that you find very uncomfortable to contemplate but my advice is for you to calm down. My opinions have no effect whatsoever on what our political overlords are going to do to us. And one other thing: your guy won and continues to win. You should relax and enjoy all the winning.

Is the trade deficit your only measure for success? My view on Trump's tariffs is it's about far more than just trade deficits. Everything from additional tax revenue from tariffs/increased GDP, national security, foreign policy, fair trade ETC.
Covid should have been a wake up call to even the biggest moron. Relying on your foreign adversaries for things like pharmaceuticals, electronics, raw materials and other necessities that could be cut off by an adversary is the dumbest thing our government has ever done.

Try just answering the question. We were told from the beginning the trade deficit is a major problem and a tariff war was necessary to rectify that specific situation. If Trump wins the tariff war it is reasonable to expect the trade deficit to go away. That’s what he promised a million times over. But what if it doesn’t, what if there’s still the sticky trade deficit on our hands *after* Trump wins the tariff war exactly on his terms? Would it therefore be reasonable to conclude the tariffs were not responsible for the trade deficit and Trump was dead wrong about it all this time after putting the country through all this angst? Would we be right to be pissed that he either knew his tariff policy wouldn’t do what he said it would do, or he was stupid in thinking it would? Can you stick to the premise of the question without trying to change things to your preferred favorable terms?

I've revisited this thread about three times today. I've read all the posts made by people not named PoncaDan. As for Dan's posts, I've inadvertently read about three words total.

No, you evaded the question as asked and tried to recalibrate. You know the answer. You are terrified you’ll sound disloyal if you say it. And loyalty to DJT is of paramount importance to you.
Or maybe I have a different viewpoint than you, oh the horror.

On this specific topic we have the same viewpoint because it’s the only valid viewpoint one can have. If Trump wins his tariff war but the trade deficit remains it means either 1) he knew his tariffs wouldn’t abolish the trade deficit and he lied about it, or 2) he stupidly believed his bs. Let me offer you an easy way out. Let’s hear you say he was wrong. I know that challenges your perceived loyalty, that it would be excruciatingly painful to admit he was wrong about anything. But in this instance it would be correct for you to say he was wrong. When he finds out about your admission he’ll hopefully forgive you. Is that an admission you’ll be willing to make? Work with me here!

Once again Dan Trump's tariffs are not just about the the trade deficit but you can have that opinion if you wish.

It’s not the topic. It’s you. You’re an annoying, condescending, self-aggrandizing fűck. You belong on a panel at NPR or the like where everyone tells each other how great they are, except not even liberals see any greatness in you.

BTW, your lengthy diatribe is based on multiple false premises, which makes your question moot

Not a single thing in the setup to the question was false.

That’s nonsense and you know it. The entire justification for Trump’s one man tariff war has been based on the trade deficit. Over the months he and you have doubled down, tripled down and quadrupled down on the argument that the disparity in tariffs is the reason for the trade deficit and the trade deficit is the reason we’ve lost manufacturing jobs. Don’t get all wobbly-kneed now, Trump wouldn’t. Just fess up that if he and you get your way 100% on the tariff war with the world but the trade deficit persists you were wrong. I know how painful it would be to admit Trump was wrong about anything, but you’ll survive and your buddies on this board won’t think any less of you.

Nope. You’re lying like a rug. But at least you now have leftist, globalist, swampist, deep state, judges agreeing with you.
Nope. Every single thing I’ve written on this thread is 100% true. No amount of your pretending otherwise changes that reality.

Nope, it’s all true. Trump and his minions, probably including you, have made every one of those claims. Every single one of them.
