Trump’s economic intelligentsia has given you two talking points about what to expect from his tariffs. 1) Higher tariffs will bring in so much revenue he can abolish the income tax. 2) Higher tariffs will restrict so many imports our only hope to make up for it is to increase manufacturing, creating jobs. Ignore that the two points contradict each other, they can’t both be true. The question is this: if Trump negotiates reciprocal tariffs with another country, which of the two points will occur? So much extra cash going to the gov’t he can abolish the income tax, or a sizable increase in manufacturing jobs?
