Princeton

There's another piece to this, it's not only about Joe. He's not the first guy to suffer injuries and/or burnout. But his actions impact others and the team as a whole. From the outside, it appears like the staff is bending over backwards to accommodate him.

We all know about last year's debacle when guys were forced to change weights multiple times. But how do the coaches allow a repeat of that this year? Shouldn't Joe have been required to make weight in preseason? Instead he was the last one to certify (along with G) on 11/1. He was between 174.1 and 184. Two weeks later he weighed in at 185. So he actually gained weight post certification. Has anyone heard of that before? Geer should not have been at 197 last night. Dakota & John both said he doesn't have the horsepower for the weight. He's wrestling up to get Montalvo in the lineup and help the team win duals.

The media is very careful not ask John any direct questions regarding Joe, so we won't get any answers there. But from the outside, it's not a good look for the program IMO.

John is old school. Rank in the room and win your spot...and Joe is THAT talented.

Now, the facts about his weight control is a bad look.

What is the staff supposed to do?

How about enforcing a little personal accountability, which is one of the great things about the sport. If you don't make weight on the designated dates, you lose your spot.

And if you read between the lines, they are moving guys around because of Joe. John said on his radio show that winning duals was important. And he said you need to win 6 bouts in order to win a dual. We had 3 question marks - 133, 197 & 285. Joe & G added 2 more - 174 & 141. Listen to Geer's interview from a month ago. He said he would be @ 184 and Kauffman would be @ 197 (or Montalvo now). Joe missing weight @ 174 is responsible for Geer wrestling up. When Joe returns, Geer will very likely drop down next month.

Nice job of hijacking the thread about winning the Princeton dual to virtue-signal your personal wrestling fan toughness by trashing a kid not in the lineup, that, by the way, could pull your arms off your shoulders inside of ten seconds. He's just not badass enough for some of our badass fans lol.

Several of you really should take your concerns to his coach. It sounds like his dad is coddling him.

You need a safe space?

I missed the trash session. Everyone has said they like Joe and want to see him succeed. The discussion has been about his weight management - which has been terrible for the past year - and how it impacts the team. Is weight now off topic for a wrestling forum? Some sensitive individuals out there.

Is Joe being coddled? One would think/hope not. But whatever is going on, his struggles have not been a good look for the program.

All this bickering about Joe and not a single mention of the redshirts that were competing today at the Bob Smith Open...

Balmeceda took first including a win over teammate Simmons, Chance McClane took 2nd @ 157, Dallas Wilson took 2nd @ 125 etc

We only had 1 competitor wrestling over 165lbs, are we really that thin at our upper weights?

We are thin but both upper weight FR are in the lineup. With Ferrari, Doucet, Suerber, Plott and Hass coming that is going to change pretty quick.

Let's never miss an opportunity to trash Joe Smith, after all, he is a cheater, axe murderer, and serial rapist.

Oh..... actually no, he's none of these things, just a very very tiny bit more like the rest of us that weren't crazy dedicated, insanely tough psychopaths like other D1 wrestlers. On his behalf, I'd like to apologize for his merely being a multiple time all-american for OSU.

Trashing him at every turn has grown very old.
So I’m not saying that this definitely happened but someone told me that apparently in practice the other day he picked up a walk-on and threw him into the wall. So not good if that’s true.

‘If you make fun of someone online, whether it be about their appearance, their personal life, their sexuality, or their beliefs, you are a bully.
If you are going to talk crap about someone, at least tag them on Facebook, Instagram and @ them on Twitter. Don’t be a wuss about it.
You know what is even better? You can be an adult about things and confront them in person about what has been bothering you.
Don’t hide your ugly attitude behind some cheap computer.
To those who are being bashed and bullied online:
Do not be afraid to stick up for yourself. You do not need to conform to what people say you need to be. You can be whoever you want to be. You have every single right to be yourself.”
I’m sure half of the postings on this sight are from people that have never competed at this level. Keep your mouth shut or tell Joe to his face—I’m sure that won’t happen- cowards!
