NCAAs 2022

Speaking of improvement, when the tourney is over maybe someone can post the preseason ranking of each of our wrestlers and how they finished in the NCAAs? Maybe even their final ranking headed into the NCAAs

I am surprised at the mind set of some of the OSU fans.We have all kinds of excuses for why we have declined.Injuries, covid years, etc. All teams deal with this stuff.

Find a way if you want to be on top.We are a top 5 program right now just barely.
They finished a solid 3rd last year against loaded PSU & Iowa Teams.

The foundation is laid for a solid run.

Its hard to see today…this year does not have to affect next year.

Constructive criticism and analysis of our wrestling is a good thing so feel free to offer up your thoughts! Bonus points if it's something beyond "get better at xyz"

I think the issue is we hear the same stuff every year. Next year is the year we got a solid foundation we got this guy and that guy and then boom nothing happens. I don’t care about being 3rd We need a title

Thoughts….we ain’t winning next year as we are just too young. Maaaybe the next year we can be in the race. G should come back. He has the ability to be a high AA with focus and hard training. He improved that a lot this year. We are known as a party team. Even AJ is despite his intense training. I will be mildly surprised if he finishes his eligibility here….due to money, other interests, or even some kind of trouble (he’s a good kid but the kind that trouble could find).

We need to….
1) Start a women’s team.
2) Name John asst AD over wrestling.
3) Hire Pendleton, Pop, or Perry as men’s HC.
4) Hire Esposito as women’s HC.
5) Assuming not enough room in GIA, build a standalone facility IN THE Athletic village. It will not fit in well aesthetically in my opinion built onto GIA or in the east side field (well maybe next to the wrestling HOF would be ok). Do we really need for it to include a small arena like Ohio State’s? Definitely need some cool bleacher/stands set up in part of the wrestling room.
6) Get some great graduate wrestlers in to train. Look what has happened with Michigan this year. John’s excuses are running out and being proven wrong.

Recruiting is looking up, maybe in large part to OKLA talent. But I think dumping Guerrero and elevating Perry and Caldwell has helped. I think in a couple of years we have a shot but some team culture needs to continue to change.

I just see Surber as a kid that's going to head back to STW after this and just continue to bulk up. I could be wrong but I think he will eventually be a really good HWY. Once again we had someone young lose to a guy who finished up HS 7 years ago.

Even John has been making excuses this year. He's complained about the super seniors several times.

After Eierman beat Young, John commented that Carter was in 7th grade when Eierman started college. Meanwhile, Carter was in 6th grade when Dusty Hone started college. Geer just turned 25. Daton just turned 24 and he's a soph.

Did we have anyone advance to the semifinals? I watched the quarters for awhile and never saw one OSU wrestler. It appears that we are not relevant anymore. The fact that Missouri dominated the Big 12 Championships reinforces that belief. I understand that the situation with Ferrari takes a lot of the spotlight off of OSU, but it‘s sad to see how far we have fallen.

Agree and it's disappointing because recruiting appears to be improving?
I'm a dummy, but won't this sorta thing hurt recruiting? This year the pokes looked like a team where talent rots on the vine. I imagine recruits aren't that sympathetic to injury stories. So, what are they looking at? 3 returning AA's who fail to make it to the blood round. Another who's on the verge. One kid who placed at SR WTT and goes 0-2. Another who at one point pinned a current top 5 pfp wrestler as a freshman but has given diminishing returns since then. How is this an attractive opportunity?

Maybe, they will be swayed by the variety of singlets.

Fix is in the semis

They’ve got a kid named Daton Fix that looks pretty good 😉 😊

No one that you need to be worried about. Thanks for stopping in.

Not to start an argument, but John Smith makes the call when he is done.

If a transition isn't done peacefully and on John Smith's accord, it will kill OSU Wrestling. What coach would want to relocate to Stillwater after we sour a relationship with the greatest Wrestler that has ever laced them up?

The scenario you played out would be great, IF it were John's idea.

Fix made it to the semi's. G won 2 to 1. A very sad year and a horrible 16 year run without a Championship. Contrast that with Dean of Penn. St. who his last 2 matches he could have lost but at the end of each match Sanderson challenged a call and won both. The result was loud boos from the fans. We got bad luck they have good luck plus they are better wrestlers. Recruiting really has picked up , but sadly we are stuck again saying wait until next year. I don't know if I am that confident in Voinovich or Haas who are important for next years chance at a Championship. I watched Voinovich in his first and only match at the junior European Championships and I was not impressed. We will need to be strong at 49 and 84 to have much of a chance against Penn. St. Also we have to hope RBY leaves. Their top 5 or 6 wrestlers are always monsters who always perform.

I missed seeing his match and only saw that he (and Plott) made the quarters. Sorry I’m not up on things as much as some of the die-hard wrestling fans in here, but the fact that we’re nowhere close to Penn St. or Michigan or even Iowa and Missouri proves my point.

Maybe….but if we suck like this much more he would be forced to move on and it would be our alumni wrestlers, including the three possible replacements who would be leading the charge. Heck his son was one of the biggest transgressors of partying and not working hard. Thankfully (probably due to his name and Perry and Caldwell’s work) we really do have a lot of potential talent signed and committed and probable for the next few years. So it’s not a hollow “wait ‘til next year.” If we didn’t have all those guys lined up I dare say he would be let go now. He likes to fart around on his farm like Gundy so maybe a lighter role would suit him.

Coleman def Geer 18-14!! It was a wild match that had about everything.......Now we're down to 3 cowboys remaining!!

We absolutely are close to at the very least Missouri if we’re healthy.
