NCAA

With 133 & 197 in the championship round, 149, 165, 184 still alive to battle for 3rd, 157 going for 7th tomorrow how many point are available if all win and if any bonus?

The tv guys said PSU tops out at 124 points, so Iowa needs 16 more points to clinch the title.

Who would have dreamed that Austin Harris would score more team points than Plott and Mastro combined.... or more than Demas?

Check out the PSU roster the last few years
If AJ wins tomorrow, and I expect him to, he is in pretty elite company. True freshman national champions don’t come around very often. We have a great foundation with Fix and Ferrari. Predicting a 17-18 year old kid’s level of dedication once they are on their own has to be the toughest challenge for the coaches. Partying and girls is pretty tempting in college. Talent is probably the easiest thing to evaluate.

Need to find some solutions at 141 & 149 moving forward
We do need a 141 as you say but our 2 best recruits coming in, I believe their best weight is 149. Voinovich and Young Mastro may wrestle off next year for 149 and the wrestler who loses will likely take 157 after Sheets leaves. Whoever that is would redshirt and work on gaining some size and improving their wrestling skills. If Parco is a 149 maybe we wouldn't try to get him. Now if he is a 141 who All Americans at 149 I think we should jump at the chance to get him. Also if Wyatt gets his knee fixed and Dustin gets his shoulder fixed they could be so much better than this year especially Dustin Plott.

Dake was a true freshman champ? Teyon Ware? Anybody else?

I read where there have been 19 of them. They allowed freshmen to wrestle, and then they didn’t, and now obviously they do again.

I am no wrestling expert but our level of performance has not been acceptable for a long time for the program that has the most national titles of any team sport in all of North America, college or pro. People yell for the HC’s in our major sports to be fired all the time, and you can make the argument the current HC has ridden this program down to a level that would have had him canned 30 years ago, and he would of been canned a lot faster. Back in the day you went 3 years without a NC or so and you were done.

It is a so called minor non-revenue sport so perhaps some don’t care anymore. The commitment to winning seems to be lacking, and I am sure it is multi-faceted.

I understand John Smith is a wrestling legend and to even mentioning a change is needed is sacrilegious, but this program is really struggling. Something needs to be done but it appears no urgency exists to get back on top.

How long have excuses been made and false hope spread after each disappointment? Seems like a really long time.

Oklahoma A&M / State wrestling invented winning at the highest level. The standard has slipped mightily, who would have thought the program would slip to the point it is no longer a source of pride?

Maybe Mr. Weiberg can get the program moving.

Should we fire John tomorrow or wait until the tournament is over?

FYI ... the notion we had stretches of our history where we fired coaches because they didn’t win a title for three years is simply not even close to being true.

HONEST ASSESSMENT

We do not need drastic changes! We need conditioning, offensive help, and to start recruiting Pennsylvania HEAVY.There are lots of PA kids at smaller D1 schools who would die to come to OSU.

We spend lots of time tying up and trying to look busy and not really doing anything.

125-Mastro needs strength and experience but next year needs to be improved.
133-We are fine with Fix.
141-149-157 are all big question marks and not sure we have an answer or many NCAA points from these weights next year.
165-Does fine in Big 12 but average against good competitors.Needs to make a big jump.
174-184-Plott or TacoI am higher on Plott and he will do fine when healthy.Taco needs to step up.
197-We are set.
Heavy-we need major help.

We will have to make big gains over next couple years to be in top 3.Look at Missouri,NC STATE,Rutgers, etc have all passed us by.We need to step up!

None of NC State, Rutgers and Missouri are within 40 points of us. Might want to pump the breaks on the passing us stuff.

Spencer Lee is another. I am not sure about Nathan Tomasello, but thought he was as well

I became a fan of Parco at the big 12’s two weeks ago. He wrestled aggressively and with passion. He will not be the biggest or the strongest 141-49 but I like the effort that he brings.

Agreed on Voinovich. He looks like another high end guy that could be a crowd favorite due to the way he carries himself.

If you carry yourself cocky, you better win & back it up. AJ does.
I went to the Iowa wrestling forum and they are really jerks. They are really talking bad about Daton. Basically they think as always that the sport is pushing and not wrestling. DeSanto outpushed Daton and so Daton stalled and we should be ashamed of our wrestling style. Lots of other ugly stuff also.

I hate Iowa's style of wrestling. Have we lost any matches to Iowa during this championship?

I actually was so wanting Penn. St. run to end that I pulled for Iowa to beat them. I will not do that again because we are in a place to win the Championship starting next year.

I just watched Wittlake beat Ethan Smith who he lost to in the quarterfinals 7 to 4. Very enjoyable watching Boo win by major and now Wittlake win. Important for our future and Wittlake's confidence.

Great bounce back for TW. Comes back and beats Smith in the rematch and will wrestle for 3rd.

He is the perfect example of us fans being hypercritical of our own guys. We tried to almost write him off when he lost a match or two as a RS. A sophomore with 3 years eligibility left will either finish 3rd or 4th in his first national championship tournament.

If that was a PSU guy doing that we would be discussing their next stud and NC contender...

Reminds me of one time I wanted Donnie Walton benched in a CWS game.

Geer loses 10-6 and will wrestle for 5th. Full 3rd period rideout for Geer. He got stuck on a 6 point move in the 1st on a scramble which is the difference in the match.
