NCAA PORTAL

I get tired of the comments that we did not develop wrestlers. I am not sure that Daton could have gotten any better from when he arrived. Somewhat the same with Dustin. You cannot train someone to be quicker. Watch how David Taylor recruits. He is looking for quickness the same as Cael has done. Just because a guy wins matches before college does not mean he will be a great collegiate wrestler. Most can get stronger, but few get quicker if any.

Without a built out RTC, your development is going to be somewhat limited overall. Of course there are certain talents whose ceilings are just higher than others and can hit it no matter where they are

Daton came in really good and left really good. He never got any better while at OK State. He got passed and beat by wrestlers that got better as he stayed the same. There was barely any development of wrestlers at OK State in the last ten or so years, before this year. One wrestler comes to mind when I think of wrestlers that got developed at OK State the last ten years and that is Derek White. In the three years at OK State, the improvements he made were amazing. I may be missing a couple, but not too many others come to mind.

I may be missing a couple, but not too many others come to mind.
Ringer, Geer, Weigel, Brock, Picc. All of those guys consistently improved to me. And that was my immediate short list. I do agree there are some guys that did not meet expectations (too regularly) but I wouldn't paint a broad stroke that there was barely any development.

Yeah, and I think we all expected Daton to win 5 Titles...

This is so wrong. Fix was really good when he arrived. He didn’t get passed and beat by wrestlers that were measurably less than him at the start of his career. He and a group of talented young wrestlers were winning and losing matches to each other as far back as Junior High. I barely know names of wrestlers at the HS level unless I understand OSU to be recruiting them. However, I heard of Fix, Spencer Lee, RBY, Diakomihalis, and Arujua when they were in junior high and all about the same weight. They were and have always been on an elite level. Guys like Soriano entered the picture a little later in HS, but he was on the level of the previously-mentioned by graduation. Soriano beat Fix at Who’s #1. Fix is cursed by the fact that he was a marquis recruit at a time when OSU wasn’t getting enough of them and the fact that he accomplished the incredible feat of making 4 finals without winning one. People do not recognize or choose to ignore who he lost to in nearly all of his rare losses, especially in the NCAA finals.

Our interpretations of improved may be different. But its all good, we can agree to disagree!

Anyone hearing anything on Ryder?

Excited for years to come in my opinion our ROTC room is getting close with NLWC. Look at our lightweights for these kids to train with RBY,FIX,Gilman..then look at heavier weights…Hamite, plott,DT,Valencia,Wyatt…room is coming along quickly! I can see that being a reason transfers WANT to come to Stillwater.

Was just over on the Penn State board and seen someone saying Lehigh was in the mix for Ryder. Could have been them just hoping he does not end up at OK State or Ohio State. Also, any of you ever been over there and see how they judge schools that pay NIL and say oh Penn State doesn't do that at all. It is ridiculous! I am a fan of the sport, follow OK State the most, but the arrogance of these Penn State fans recently is absolutely ridiculous. Reminds me a lot of the obnoxious Eagle fans in this area.

Hope that isn’t the case. Have to say I immediately assumed he was coming here. We still probably make the most sense unless it is a situation where he just wants to stay out east.

I mean, you know where a lot of PSU fans come from, right?

It's unfortunate that we don't really know who is right. I can see both sides but would think that a kid like that is going to at least get some money. Getting some and not taking the biggest offer, I could see.

Cael and Co. have more information on Ryder than anyone in the country and still risked bringing in Welsh. Maybe, they weren't sold on his potential/development? Everybody just assumes they messed this up, but maybe it was more calculated than we realize.
Never say never, but never underestimate Cael’s eye for talent and developmental capability. It’s uncanny.

They’ve quietly had a good week. They’ve managed to keep Drake and they’ve added Nasir and Jordan. Two multi year high end guys. They need a 197 but with Angelo coming on and PK/ Arnold fighting it out for 74… they’re a salty squad.
Yeah, Bo has no thoughts of going anywhere. Props to them, they have been active and made some pretty good moves

So, for those in the know, are we 3rd in NIL funds? Lower than that? Richison not donating to that part, correct?

Thanks!

I may have missed this, but does anyone have inside info on Gary Steen (Penn State friends 😉😉)? This transfer kind off perplexes me

That one’s a head scratcher. Best buds with Facundo and/or Ryder? Otherwise I don’t get it. Taking into account the cut to 30 it makes no sense.

Not quite what he said. More so his opinion is it's more likely than not that he comes here
He said he thought the chances of him going to OSU were high and then said, "just talking to people this morning, it sounds like [that's where he's going]." You can listen below if you want. Starts at the 19:40 point in the video.

Huge pick up for now and future. We are locked in solid at 165,174,184, and 197 for the next three years. Now the only question is do we target a 133 pounder or heavyweight? There aren’t any super high level guys out there at those spots right?

Right targets, need some more portal entires. Wonder if they are done at 133 with Steen.
157 if the right person comes along.

Personally I am fine with 141 to 157 with a combo of Vega, Robideua, Jamison, Swyderski, and Teague filling those spots. If we get the Ramey twins we could have a contending roster without needing portal additions soon.

I’m ok with what we have at 133 unless we can bring in a top 4 talent of course.

157 I’m also good with honestly. 157 has 6/8 returning AA. So unless we are getting one of them we have a couple guys I think have blood round potential and could pull off AA. The one weight (if we get Facundo) I would want still is heavy.

Man I don’t know. Feels like at 133 we just have Ren. I like what we saw from Ren but I’m not feeling like we are set there by any means. I just can’t imagine they brought in Steen to be the starter.

Seems like a pretty big hole to me. I bet they are shaking the trees trying to find a 133.

I’m fine rolling with Doucet if we could land an elite 133 but we might be able to make it work there with what we have. Just is a big question mark at this point. I think we missed our opportunity to upgrade at heavy with missing on the kid who went to Michigan.

So hypothetical land that the rumors of us getting the Raney twins and Ryder are correct. Imagine this hypothetical lineup-125 Raney-rs-fr. 133-Raney Ed-rs fr, 141-Vega-rs-so., 149 Forrest rs-fr, 157- robideou-rs so, 165 Lockett-jr, 174 Facundo-sr, 184-Ryder-jr, 197 Merrill-jr, hwt Ross rs-fr. Lineup of all top ten overall recruits with a large chunk being top five. That hypothetical lineup could challenge Penn state.

It depends on what you mean by challenge. I don't think we beat PSU though with a lineup full of underclassmen, no matter the talent level.
