NC State

I bet we’re still recovering from hell week
That is what it looked like to me. I guess Pennstate 1985 was correct when he posted that we would have a week or two in January when we would not look good and struggle. Everyone of our wrestlers, minus Hughes and Jamison, looked sluggish and not mentally into their matches. Yet, we won 9 out of 10 matches and put up 34 points.

Well, my boy Sprat looked half full of his normal energy and Robinson kept the match where he could win. If they meet in March, it’ll be different.

Fun match by our future 65 pounder at 33! I sure hope he gets his cut down well and he’s a problem for a wide open weight.

TJ is TJ…great job!

Young got the win, but he’s still having trouble finishing his shots with high percentage.

Fish is just fun to watch and the guy is dangerous, on both sides of the sword.

Amine, I really wish he would find 5th gear! He’s so good when he pedals down.

After that, NCst guts Wrestled to keep a narrow win in sight and Surber is the only guy who separated from that gameplan.

Hendrickson went about like Sprat, looked sluggish.

Either way, it was fun!

Great dual tonight. NC St showed up and wrestled tough despite the score. Spratley had an odd match. Still question thag first take down. He was the aggressor and controlled the match even being down. Really hope we can get more of that Hughes we saw tonight. He has a better chance of scoring us more points at nationals than Witcraft.

When was this "Hell Week"? Some guys looked a little flat like Plott and Wyatt but overall nothing too out of the ordinary.

So with Hughes’ performance last night, who is the 133 moving forward? The pin itself may have been the result of “catching” Orine, but Hughes rode an AA out for an entire period. That’s not nothing.
The way Hughes won that match—ride out plus multiple chances at back points before getting the pin—seems to be a much more sustainable style of wrestling than Witcraft’s boom or bust. Small sample size but I trust Hughes more in a tournament.

So long as his shoulder is okay and the weight cut doesn’t kill him, I’d tend to agree.

I believe it’ll be a tricky spot for a coach to navigate.

Witcraft is a fan favorite, a teammate favorite and a dangerous kid that does everything right. That’s hard to remove from a lineup.

Hughes, with my knowledge is a good kid, works hard, is a good teammate and has a hard time cutting weight to the spot he fits at. The only spot he outshines Reece is point scoring in March is likely.

I’m not even real sure who wins the ranking matches?

Also almost took him down a couple times too. Didn’t finish but Orrine played good defense. That’s something that should come with experience.

Don't think so. Hughes ability to ride the full 2nd period frustrated him beyond belief. Really got in his head at the last restart. It was a thing of beauty.
Would bet high level guys, especially top 8, aren’t used to being ridden out like that. Especially by an unranked opponent (regardless of recruiting pedigree).
