HS Recruiting News

This goes without saying but Sergio Vega is no consolation prize. I’d expect both him and Robideau to be Top 10 in the next big board after their Super 32 performances.

Also consider this, it sounds like DT basically convinced a kid to hop on a plane on a weeks notice to visit Stillwater, if that is any indicator of his selling abilities.

In a perfect world (from the ‘25 & ‘26 classes):

125-Rocklin
133-Ramirez
141-Jax
149-Sergio
157-Robideau
165-Routledge
174-Dee

And Bo Bassett and Aaron Stewart have some great workout partnets to beat out for starting spots. Since I am already carried away: Adam Waters/184; Dreshaun Ross/197, and Michael Mocco/285.

Speaking of Mocco, I see he is visiting his Dad’s other alumni program, Iowa, next weekend.

Your lineup is already loaded ... now comes the really fun part when DT continues to add kids that seem to create a logjam but he's really just doing a "iron sharpens iron" and "best man wins" thing to make everyone even better.

Vega is an absolute stud and a terrific flip. In his Flo interview DT talked about Cael telling him not to take anything personal as a coach. I feel iike that was a direct message to Yianni. That being said, this is a huge pick up.
Yeah, and Yianni didnt like his offer from DT.

I’d love for him to be here, but he clearly has blinders on.

I had never noticed Vega until Fargo where he was the 9th seed and won. When I saw him at WNO and Super 32's I thought boy this kid looks really good and was disappointed he was committed to Cornell. Real good things are happening with recruiting with Staff flipping Vega, Robideau and Routledge. Really excited about Vega and Robideau. I think Routledge is tough but not much offense. Will our coaches be able to develop offense for him? Add Lockett ( the super recruit) and Ramirez, our 2025 recruiting class is something else. The you add the transfers, quite the start for our staff. Now 2026 if we get Jax and Mocco added to Rocklin Zinkin that would be quite the quality class to add to our super 2025 class. If we are developing our kids at a high level, we may compete with Penn. St soon. I will soon see our team and the development hopefully is seen this year!

Vega's big breakout came last year at S32. (he took 4th at Fargo and split w/ Cooper Hilton which was truly his breakout but it didn't get as noticed as S32)

he beat Ben Davino (the one seed who was coming off making the Cadet World Team and a win over Jax Forrest). i had him (Vega) as the 4 seed. he lost in the finals to Bassett.

then, of course, this season he won Fargo, WNO, and S32.

Great get guys. Some random thoughts...

1. DT has been your coach for five months. I think he's already proven that his recruiting/selling skills are top notch. If you don't get a guy, it won't be because David didn't do his best.
2. This is one of the values of having a RTC. I have to believe that bringing in RBY helped grease the wheels of this flip. For those who don't know, RBY and Vega attended the same HS, so RBY is probably a hero of Vega's.
3. Yianni needs to stop taking things personally. It's a bad look. It's just business. There is a world of difference imo to recruiting a committed kid versus a signed kid. Nothing unethical or wrong in going after a committed kid. In fact, I'd think less of a coach if he stopped trying.
4. You guys are developing a salty team that will be competitive for national titles in 3-4 years. Remember, Vega may not step on the mat for 3 years.

That’s quite a resume. Plus, you really want a kid on his upswing in his career. Super get!

Respect to the kid for skipping the usual corny "thank you for everything [previous school], this was a tough decision" spheal 😂
"Hate it or love it" I am sure that was a direct response to Yianni's post. I am sure that Yianni's post helped Vega's decision to be easier to flip.
