HS Recruiting News

Have to stack classes up which we have done a pretty good job at. The question I have is will Coleman add some new wrinkles to our style and development.

Whether that’s mindset, culture, or the way we build, push and develop the wrestlers who come to OSU. That has been an area we have somewhat struggled in and what needs the most change/improvement.
Hopefully mindset that losing in an orange singlet is unacceptable.

Mineo is saying Rob Koll to UNC. If true, then the Stanford guys would be allowed to enter the portal.

If you package the Wittlake scholly & some NIL $ together for Daniel Cardenas, you could have 157 locked up for the next 3 years. Joey McKenna left Stanford for OhioSt, so it's not unheard of.

I was just reading the article on Flo on the wrestlers committed and not committed that are wrestling tomorrow at WNO. How many of the wrestlers not committed, do we have a chance at?

Problem is we already have a log jam at 133-149 for the next several years. 7 guys at 125 on the roster. So other than Jax Forrest I don’t see us going after anyone at those lower projected weights. Merrill for sure though.

I think we’re a front runner for Forrest from things I’ve seen online

# 1 rated classes are great on paper but desperately need help in developing and getting the most out of these kids. Hopefully the new coaching additions help, all we can hope for really.

We are currently the UT of the wrestling world, with great recruiting classes but no discipline or development. The only difference is they've had a revolving door of coaches and we have not.

I’ve seen a few guy’s recently that looked like losing was acceptable.
I know what you mean. But it's not that simple. No way do ANY of these want to lose, are ok with losing.

When they "look like losing is acceptable" - has more to do with their mental belief that they CAN win. Kind of a convoluted way of saying John could do a lot better in this area. He loves his guys, believes in his guys, but there is definitely a disconnect. Which... I guess is coaching. It takes a certain type of personality to wrestle for John. And if you don't meet expectations? man. It can be a tough place to be.

Extremely well said my friend

Of course, it can be a tough place to be. Look at the history of Oklahoma State. There are very high expectations for these kids coming into this program, for any of these kids. I think the bigger problem in recent years is that these kids that stick around are not getting any better while being here. We need more stories like Nolan Boyd or Derek White, who got better almost every year.

There's some smoke here.

Yup, Zo cornered Forrest during the match.

Merrill is a beast.

Knox is really good, but DeLuca is the better athlete. Don't know if we still have a chance with him because that east coast poster hasn't posted in a couple of years.

Henckel & Eise looked good in losing efforts. Eise took an official visit to ASU last week. Lockett & McComas were on the same recruiting trip.

Merrill is fun to watch. Beast mode
Forrest mother Loves OSU money won’t be a issue for his family they are very well off The dad could be a issue of him ending up at PSU but hell if PSU wanted my kid I would look that way also.

Did anybody watch WNO? Saw some posts by Flo that the Forest match was a barn burner.

Forrest won in overtime with the pass by takedown 18 to 15. Lots of points were scored and Raney got a takedown and ride out to take the match to overtime 15 to 15. Wild match.

MatScouts is showing Landyn Sommer committed to OU. That's their 5th Oklahoma recruit in the '24 class.

Willie has him as a 2 star, #164 overall. Way underrated IMO.

Poor form, Willie. Couldn’t wait an extra day to let the kid announce himself?

Welp, I didn't realize Landyn hadn't announced yet. Poor form on me I guess.

I just checked the commitment list again and he's no longer listed. Not sure what's going on, but apologies for jumping the gun.

It’s not your fault - you were just stating what you saw. Nothing to apologize for.

If you were the actual reporter, it’s a different story.

Def nothing against you. I know Willie wouldn't purposefully do that to a kid but sure sucks.

It's official now. He announced he's going to OU.

They can sign 25 Oklahoma kids. Oklahoma State has to go after the best kids in the country to win national championships the recruiting has changed here. they will recruit some Oklahoma kids. But if they’re ever getting back on top, it’s not about being loyal to the Oklahoma kids. It’s about getting the best kid, they will get two or three a year .But how many kids in this recruiting class do you really think has a chance to win a national title or be a 2-3 time all American in Oklahoma.

I know there can always be surprises and I'm not a talent scout, but my guess is: 2024 - maybe 1, 2025 - 2.

I get that and don't disagree. It's about the Jimmys and the Joes, that's been posted on this board before. Rob Koll said the other day the only thing he wants his assistants to focus on is recruiting. Nothing else really matters.

You mention us getting 2 or 3 top guys per year. That's would be great and getting Merrill would go a long way. If we miss on him, our only other '24 recruit is outside the top 200. Not a good follow-up to '23.

When I said two or three, that was a Oklahoma kids that doesn’t count out of state you cannot win national championships unless you get the top kids And they’re not in Oklahoma consistently

If there is a Oklahoma Kid to get than OSU gets him. No reason to fill out the roster with a bunch of workout partners just because they are from in state.

The reading comprehension on this board is pretty poor.

No one said OSU needs more OK kids on the roster. The only comment made was that OU now has 5 in-state recruits in the '24 class. That's a fact. If you read the OU board, you'd realize Rosselli intentionally avoided recruiting OK kids. According to their insider, Rosselli didn't think OK kids were tough enough. Obviously the new regime thinks differently.

The new regime is also heading in the wrong direction. All five of them Oklahoma kids would be workout partners.

We do need to get someone like Merrill because our 2024 class is sad. Otherwise we need to get from the portal. As has been mentioned 2025 is very important if we are to be a challenger especially getting our Oklahoma potential star, Lockett. Our focus should be top high school recruits and then portal to fill in needs.
