HS Recruiting News

Sure I hope it works out for him, but at a certain degree of his success it will start to reflect on the development issues we have here in the room. I had high hopes for him coming in and for whatever reasons it just didn't work out. I guess you could say the same for Voinovich. I wish him the best, but if he jumps major levels this year is that going to reflect negatively on our coaches and wrestler development? Or can you mark it up to just a change in environment or personal factors?
all of the above play a part. Sometimes, two people (coach and wrestler, in this instance) don't mesh for a myriad of reasons.

Or is it because they get older and they have a years experience under their belt he will improve he had 14 matches, one pointer or overtime losses. He will turn some of them around if he makes there team

Seems like it’d be the opposite. VV has a whole season of competition under his belt, plus working out and training in our room. If he does well I think OSU gets some credit rather than looking bad. He came here, did okay, his losses were all close, and now he’s taking all of his experience to Iowa where he’ll grow or not. He would grow in his second year wherever he is.

Personally I don’t buy the “OSU can’t develop wrestlers” narrative that some folks constantly speculate on. Do some wrestlers come to OSU and not develop as much as we fans would like, sure. That happens to athletes in every sport at every level. Have a little faith y'all.

Damn I’m just excited for the season haha. This off-season “let’s speculate!” gets old lol

Agree 100% not only vastly improved the athletes but multiple new coaches and senior athletes in the room.

We missed out on one of the best Ks kids Owen Eck, choose OU, would have been around 157 or 165. He majored the collinsville kid going to Wyoming 2 weeks after winning a state championship in football, would like to have seen him in orange… best d1 prospect out of Ks for awhile

Good high school wrestler not Oklahoma State type of kid

yeah, we would hate to have another 4 time KS champ, with a high bonus rate. Reminds me of another that ended up pretty good. What was his name? ended up a 4 time AA (for us and OU), a U23 (University) world champ, and a great recruiter. Can someone help me with that name? I am hitting a blank...

At the time Meade looked like a rare find, but just did not pan out the way Tyler did. Meade was a phenomenal athlete, but could not get his head on straight.

McComas & Sommer took official visits to Wyoming last week.

Been kinda quiet on the recruiting front lately. We apparently haven't chased some of these local guys very hard. Feels like maybe we are going after some big fish. Hopefully something breaks soon.

This kid is not even in Tyler‘s league

Well said

FLO has a article on LaDarion Lockett's recruiting and his top 7 schools. They are in no specific order...
OSU
ISU
Iowa
ASU
Cornell
MINN
Little Rock

The article talks about how OSU is the obvious choice for him growing up in Stillwater but he isn't sold on anywhere yet and wants to take all his visits and see which schools he feels like are going to be best fit for him. Basically what any smart kid would do who has his pick of the crop. Personally I don't see him keeping MINN, Little Rock and Iowa on the list.

All kids want attention during this process we will be fine

Bryce Dauphin from Wyoming entered the portal on June 20th. He’s a 157 LB and he’s from Tuttle. He’s a career 30-8 unattached in two years. Do we think OSU might have some interest here? Just curious.

Only 13 DI matches out of the 38 he wrestled going 10-3 in those, but those were mostly against backups from N. Colorado, Air Force and Northern Iowa. No notable wins or close matches against any quality guys.

Hopefully something will come out soon. Flo did a Early line-up look at OSU and they have Manibog/Cutter Sheets as our options at 157.

Looking down the road to '24-'25 season my ideal line-up would look something like this...
125) Spratley
133) Hughes
141) Young
149) Tagan Jaminson (bumping up after a year at 141)
157) Williams (bumping up after a year at 149)
165) Nobody
174) Plott
184) Thompson (Hopefully)
197) Surber
285) Carroll

Unfortunately after this coming year when Olejnik graduates we don't have anyone to hold down 165. So if Jaminson and Williams don't work bumping up weights then we will have to get creative in the portal at 157 & 165

Jamison and Williams 41-49 sheets and mani bog will not be the starter at 57 and we do have 65 held down after next year flo is just out there guessing they have no idea what the lineup is

I do agree the 2024 class is lacking right now. Is Beric Jordan the only one locked in? Hoping for Roller too. I mean considering how young this years lineup could be it makes sense. Maybe grab some portal seniors next year to fill gaps and let guys mature. Would hope Roller is a future option at 157 or 165 and obviously Lockett as well shortly after.

Roller wrestles 138 is likely 141 possibly 149. He would have to have a big growth spurt for 157 much less 165.

Roller is at 138 right now how do you get 157-165 we all wish but probably unrealistic

I wish them all the best of luck. Especially the OG Oklahoma boys that grew up in the system. Unfortunately OSU can’t take every good kid that comes out of the state and it only makes the OK look better production wise. It’s a love/hate when an Okie kid has success elsewhere but it’s still a good thing.
