My neighborhood of about 125 houses was hit with a monstrous hail storm about two months ago. Since that time there have been dozens of roofing crews replacing all the damage. The crews usually have 10-12 guys, virtually every one of them Spanish speaking Mexicans. I wonder how many of them are in the country illegally. If MAGA gets its way and deports them all it leaves the question of who will shingle our roofs in the future? Who will mow our lawns and tend our gardens? Surely all those illegals working in our neighborhoods are not murderers and rapists? It would be absolutist to think that.

A pure libertarian society would have roads just like it would have shoes and socks and toothbrushes and furniture and every other commodity. Are you thinking a society of free individuals would be incapable of building roads?

I think it’s more a situation where they’re the ones willing to do the work. Not to mention a free society is unlikely to have illegal residents. What and who would make them illegal?

Dan, the laws of a country determine who is a legal citizen/resident and who isn't. That's not a new concept. The US has a whole slew of laws regarding citizenship. Surely you know this, right?

Hell, Medic, even you could do it. But being a dispatcher for ambulances is something all of us would choose over roofing. Yes, we are all aware there is a "whole slew" of laws determining who can get into our paradise and who can't. One of the great things about our paradise is there are people willing to do our roofing and mowing so we don't have to.

Your first post was incredulous at the thought of who could possibly replace illegals in roofing and lawn care. When we finally got to the fact that you're just sniveling about Trump deporting your cheap labor, you're suddenly all knowledgeable about who could do those jobs including current roofing cost differences (which didn't come from me).
That's quite the gulf, Dan. So, it's very easy to come to the conclusion that:
A) You actually started the thread clueless about who could replace illegal aliens labor
OR
B) You acted clueless in your initial post but actually knew who could replace illegal alien labor AND the cost difference involved.

Just imagine your opportunity to go to Amsterdam and demand papers from the populace looking for those damn gews. You can go out and ask the roofers fixing your friends houses if their hard working hispaics have their "papers". Maybe you find one that has all the certifications of all their laborers, you might, but you will be paying 2X for your roof.
I did 35-years in west Houston. 5-hurricanes, 2-straight line winds, 4-40 ft. pine trees down and 2-roofs. All tended to by Hispanic workers that broke their backs to get it done with no complaints or injuries from those 40-foot ladders and those 37 degree roof slopes.
