I agree. I get why the ref called it an escape and takedown. Wasn’t egregious or anything. But everytime I’ve seen a situation like that the ref almost always calls a reversal. Ultimately tho like you said Carter fell asleep.

Fish won by decision, Amine won on the only takedown of the match that occurred in overtime.
Dean and Dustin both won by tech. Both scored on their own shots and both scored off their opponents' shots. What a 1,2 punch.

Surber loses by a point to Smith. Very close match with Smith getting the only takedown. Hendrickson wins by pin. I think Saldate will be favored but we will see tomorrow.

I look at the matchups and no surprise it gets a lot tougher tomorrow. We will have a chance tomorrow to really jump in the rankings individually. Today was a very good day.
McDanel just lost Consi 8 so there goes another Husker. Their HWT barely escaped 16-13. Ran out of gas but Tinker from Cal Poly was on fumes and didnt manage the last 30 sec as well as he could have.
What a difference a year makes (and all that occurred during that year, of course)!
FYI…they had a free live stream from Flo on YouTube for one mat. For Ironman also. They put up decent stuff on their YouTube channel fairly often.
Agree 100% with Travis25 - overall very consistent, agressive, in shape, technical, lots of bonus, smart, strategic, controlled... So far a much higher quality of wrestling from this squad than I've seen from an OSU team in years. We'll see what happens in the semis.
To me, you're taking the right view on the coaching so far. Look at the team progression and not individual guys. The signs you mentioned are the result of the guys dedicating their summer to being in Stillwater. The dividends will be paid in March in those pivotal quarter and consis semi matchups when you need just a little extra to stand higher on the podium. This year is also good for the coaching staff to work out their kinks before your high powered recruits come into town the next year or two. Practice making perfect goes both ways.
Bonus points making a difference for OK State. Not something you have seen much of in past years. I would definitely give credit to the new coaching staff for that and the wrestlers buying into them!

There was an exchange late in the match that I thought should have been 3 Surber, but they ended up scoring 3 TD to VT and a 2 reversal for Surber after review. After that he just couldn't a TD, but was working for it. Very close match that could go either way next time they meet.
Thanks for that. I appreciate it. Surber is a solid wrestler for sure. Injuries have definitely set him back. Looking forward to a healthy season with more matches like the one he had against Munoz!
Surber has been wrestling very solid considering he wasn't fully cleared to wrestle until late Oct or early Nov. I think he still needs the month of Dec to get back into full form. He looked pretty gassed mid way through that quarter final match and just couldn't really get anything going after the first period. He was put into a couple of scramble positions where he is good at coming out on top of.
He has Carroll this morning so that will tell us a lot about where both guys are. Hopefully we don't have any remorse.
If anyone is having remorse, I would say it may be Carroll after getting teched in the quarters. He followed someone to Iowa State and that someone only tried to get him to follow because of selfish reasons and because he was bitter. 99% of the time, it never works out!
Quite honestly, I think this coaching staff and team are past that, looking ahead in time, not worrying about history. All positivity!

Surber seems to be having trouble with his offense. If someone shoots on him his countering is awesome. However, any time in Vegas he has had to create his own offense he has really struggled.
I think Carter showed a ton of potential yesterday. Outside of a split second lapse he was right there with Henson the entire match.
