In other news, what's the deal with Cael Hughes? This is a big tournament he should be and needs to be wrestling in. So he's either getting beat in the room by Wittcraft or his cut isn't going to work. Guy was a huge recruit, just won a team trials last summer. I don't get it unless he's not as good as we thought. Some help me.
I've been impressed with Hughes every match I've seen - just one step ahead of his opponent whatever gets thrown his way. Was hoping he could go against some high level competition this weekend to get that experience. Dude seems like a sponge moreso than a lot of guys.

Young gets ridden out in the third but still picks up the major. I understand Fish got the TF but I missed that one.

You are right, Carter wrestles solid and gets a major. A horrible 3rd period where an inferior wrestler rides him for 2 minutes. I have seen his horrible bottom wrestling now for years. Frustrating!

Love the aggression from Spratley so far.
Reaper, yes Troy wins by tech with lots of takedowns and lots of back points especially off a cradle. Also, if you aren't real strong don't get into muscle situation with Caleb Fish. His opponent got into 2 of these situations and it didn't turn out good for his opponent giving up takedowns also backs.

Young beats Ethan Fernandez of Cornell 14-7. Would’ve liked a major but Carter seemed to fade in the 3rd. Still looked good tho.
Tagen wrestled a great match as Reaper indicated. Young scored 11 points in the first period and 2 in the 2nd and 3rd period combined. He looked bad in the 2nd period and really bad in the 3rd. He did look really good in the 1st period. Caleb Fish lost 8 to 7 despite 2 takedowns in the 3rd period. He did not look good in 1st 2 period but did in the 3rd. I thought the ref scored 2 back points quick for the Northwestern wrestler but Fish did not start well and so he lost. I thought he sure looked better as a MSU 165 then he has as a OSU 157.

He 1000% will if he's interested. Best wishes for speedy and complete recoveries.
Hamiti actually looked human against Michigan who was short, strong and quick. Still Dean won by major but it did not look easy. Dustin was dominant and got a tech. Takedowns seemed easy for Dustin. Surber won a solid decision over Nebraska. Wyatt can score points quickly and won by tech. In the 2nd period late it was 5 to 0 and then a 7 point move and tech is right there. Reece won by major in consolation round. Seems to have hurt a knee somewhere in this tournament because he is limping but never took any injury timeouts and continued to score.

That guy he majored according to WrestleStat has never been bonused previously.

I am really enjoying watching Spratley, Hamiti, and Wyatt wrestle. More than I have for a cowboy in a few years (maybe since Ringer if I am being honest). Good stuff by Young (but he did get tired both matches), Plott, and Surber as well. Bummer for Reece early, but would like to see what he can do on the back side. Fish, too early to tell for me. Amine is frustrating a little bit. Seems like he has the tools but just doesn't apply them enough. Whatever gets us an AA at 165 this year though haha. Plott doing Plott things.

Up on Nebraska by 1.5 points at end of the morning!

They are definitely laying it on!

Quarters (ranking are intermat)

Spratley v #10 McCrone (Ohio St So)
Jameson v UR Garcia (Harvard So)
Young v #1 Henson (VT Jr)
Amine v #31 Thomsen (UNI Sr)
Hamiti v #15 Cassella (Bing Sr)
Plott v #26 Rowley (Purdue So)
Surber v #11 Smith (VT Sr)
Wyatt v #28 Rasmussen (UNI So)

Spratley beats Ohio States Brendan McCrone 3-0 to advance to the semis. He got a takedown in the 1st period and then rode him out. Almost got another in the 2nd period but it got stalemated.

The 3rd period McCrone rode him the whole time. Would’ve liked to see Spratley score more but McCrone is tough and I thought Troy was pretty aggressive on the feet. He’ll have Matt Ramos from Purdue in the semis. That would be huge if he can beat him.

Tagen wins by 10-2 major decision over Garcia from Harvard.

Carter loses 6-3 to Henson. Carter took Henson down in the 1st and was leading but in the 2nd Henson and escape and then got a takedown but I thought it should’ve been a reverse. Young went neutral in the third but never really got in on a shot.

Seemed like an escape and a super quick takedown with Carter falling asleep. He paid the price by getting ground for the next almost 2 minutes. That 2 seconds cost him the chance to get a giant upset. It was quick enough where it could have been called a reversal but they seemed apart for around a second. But when you are terrible on the bottom against a guy very tough on top you can't give him a takedown or reversal in that situation. Easier said then done
