I didn't see Reece in the team championship photo. Did I miss him or was he not there tonight?
Was also bummed to not see Carter there

Hendrickson toughed out a win but it was stunning how poor he wrestled. Giving up that sloppy reversal and back points changed the whole match. It took Wyatts confidence and aggressiveness. He got a big takedown to take the lead but took a horrible half shot that got him injured a little later. Just think how close we were to losing the big 12. We are the Champs of the Big 12 but going into Nationals our confidence has to be low, and we don't know if our best wrestler will be wrestling because we don't how hurt Wyatt is? Those 3 Coaches in the corner looked stunned just like I am. I would give them an F for today. Everyone wrestled tight, and when the big moment of the match came they each came up short except Wyatt gutted it out wrestling 50%. I think we were lucky Schultz can't shoot a take down. Worst night of wrestling I have ever experienced.
Don’t disagree with some of what you said. As far as “everyone wrestling tight” - thought Plott let it rip against Keck. Probably the best effort of their 6 matches.

If Hamiti was tight, so was O’Toole.

Frustrating, yes. Solid efforts by both OSU wrestlers against All-Timers.

Good, Bad, and Ugly…this was an important next step in the process.

It is essential that OSU compete for and win the Big 12 every year. As OSU has become less competitive in the past few years, it has shown in this Tournament as well as Nationals. In some ways, an ugly win is a big positive. There have been plenty of ugly losses. Good to win despite adversity.

It’s also important to understand that the Big 12 has come a long, long way. There are some All-Timers at certain weights. Seeing a bunch of 2nd Place finishes - that is what OSU is right now. It feels like they got the most out of this group. It looked like Hamiti had KOT for a moment. That would have been over the top. All that said, the Roster will turn over and improve from where it is. Look for OSU to have 2 guys at almost every weight next year who can go. Likely a highly ranked youngster along with a coveted portal transfer.

As annoying as he can be, you have to give it to Schwab. What he has done with that program has been remarkable. Should be the COTY IMO.

Wrestling seed:reality differential
Troy +4.5
Reece -11.5
Tagen +6
Travis +13
Fish -1.5
Amine -1
Hamiti +0.5
Plott +4
Surber -1.5
Wyatt +6

I know it’s obvious but getting bonus was pretty huge for this team and by the way DT talks it was his main priority for the tournament.

Really bummed for Reece. He is a top 33 wrestler and I think he misses out because of this. Hope I’m wrong and he squeaks in.

I see the usual idiots are out.

This tournament was won because of the bonus points put up on the first 3 sessions. Not because of 1 ISU wrestler winning a finals match. I believe there were at least 20 bonus points wins including Fish with the pin yesterday morning.

Everyone is disappointed with the Finals, but the amount of vitriol against the wrestlers and coaches from keyboard warriors is pretty pathetic.

125 - Spratley 2nd
133 - Witcraft No Placing
141 - Jamison 2nd
149 - Travis 4th
157 - Fish 4th
165 - Amine 5th
174 - Hamiti 2nd
184 - Plott 2nd
197 - Surber 2nd
HWT - Hendrickson 1st

Face value, we did pretty well. We really need to figure out 133. Biggest disappointment compared to hype is probably Amine imo.

Disappoiting stretch in the finals where I think we gift wrapped some wins for the other teams (125, 141, 197) but overall, we were right there....Just have to finish. All 3 opportunities we were in a position to win and just couldn't get it done.

Asking questions to Board members who truly know and follow OSU wrestling. What was going on in Taylor's mind after Surber? IMO his face and body language showed what the critics mentioned last night and this morning. Or maybe he was reflecting on the feelings of disappointment for Plott and Surber?

As usual with the OSU fanbase we overreact to everything bad. But some of what people are saying seems possible. Thoughts?

One more thing....I was reflecting on my thoughts when they announced Wyatt's transfer pre-season. Boy did those thoughts come true last night. That might have been an all-time gutsy moment in Cowboy Wrestling. I hope big time that was not the last time we see Wyatt on the mat as a Cowboy.

I get the disappointment going 1-5 in the finals..but those who are complaining did you watch the whole tournament? Most the finals matches went exactly how I thought they would. I was nervous on the team title going into Sunday night..Only thing I can see to complain is 133 was very disappointing also feel bad for Reece. A lot of brackets fell apart #3 guy in the nation frost needs an at large bid at that weight. We had 6 young men in the finals be proud of that don’t act like OU football fans please.

His body language and posture after the Surber match were stunning. I think he was just thinking what everyone else was and he can't do that. And ultimately he is responsible for the failures.

His mat side coaching was abysmal this tournament. The Hamiti loss is Example A. Fish's disasters B and C. Plus many more. How many matches were lost by not wrestling strategically? Those loses are on Coach Taylor.

His body language was the same as any coach who sat through 5 of their guys losing tough matches. He was frustrated and disappointed for them.

Wrestling is one of those sports that’s hard for a coach. Once that whistle blows there isn’t much you can do. It’s not like they can call a timeout, run a play or alter strategy.

The ultimate goal was to get back to winning the Big 12 and that was accomplished. Only a few of the 10 really underachieved this weekend. Most exceeded expectations when you really look at it and overall wrestled well.

Agreed and while the expectations under DT are sky high... we have to remember that this is his first time through all of this. We'll see adjustments and changes to everything he does as this goes on. Trial and error is pretty vital to gaining needed experience. We just won the Big 12 in his first year and 4 of our 5 finals losses came in SV or at the end of reg. The sky isn't falling by any means.

Hey a few short years ago we were all on here like "OSU needs better competition in the Big 12" and well, here ya go lol

Glad to snag the title. It's been 4 years! Disappointed in the finals results of course, but hopefully it was good XP for the squad. Don't love seeing our guys clam up in big matches, I always wonder if it's a strategy or a gas tank issue or what folks are thinking. But then I'm not the one out there so I'm not going to h8 too much.

I can’t imagine a competitor being happy with yesterday, I felt the pain in his face and I’m glad he was upset. It will only make him and the team better.

Just curious, what should he have coached hamiti to do different? I thought dean wrestled a good match, just got beat by an elite guy. Looking back, I thought Spratley did the right thing too. Guy just was unable to finish his shot.
Run, dance, move away from, not engage, and take a stalling warning and point and another point if he needed to. Avoid tie-ups.

Losing to O'Toole is not a fail at all. It would have been en epic upset. HOW he lost is awful. I am astonished at how people can't see that. And how big of a match that was for Hamiti. Individual Big 12 title, winning the team championship, and securing the #1 seed. You can't let that lead get away in the final seconds.

I have no issue with Spratley's match. Fish is the best example of our last second fails. With no need! Fish up 2 very late in his semi-finals match = take stall calls! Give up a stall point. WIN. And move on.

I agree with you regarding his body language and basically said the same thing. As tough as it is, he has to be immune from that. Especially in real time.

They can absolutely run a strategy and have a plan for all scenarios. They can coach the wrestlers to know the score, time remaining, and where they stand on stalling calls. And remind them over and over. They are right there. They can have a code word to strategically stall and move around and avoid tying up. I mean come on. Dean should not have lost that match the way he did. He had it won.

We won the Big 12 Championship. That's all that really matters. I and I think a lot of us had higher expectations for our overall performance. I did not expect to be sweating it out going into the very last match.

The reality is the current roster is full of a bunch of guys who aren’t what is needed to win national championships and we all know that.

We did get this group to win a conference title which was the first step and something that hadn’t been done in 4 years.
This is 100% accurate. At least not yet. I still think Spratley and Jamison can win national championships in the next two years.

I'm not saying mistakes weren't made, but a lot of times it's on the wrestler. SVN wrestled poorly in the semis. Didn't finish multiple shots where he normally does. Is that on SVN or Cael? Braeden Davis sometimes presses a position much too far even when told he is pressing the position too far. Is that on the coach or the wrestler?

Once a match starts, it's generally on the wrestler. The coach is responsible for getting the guys in the right frame of mind and scouting tendencies of the opponents.
