I am not @davidallen, but I would like to answer this question.
I don't expect the Democrats to have a net gain in either the Senate or the House next year. The first mid-term election for a sitting President is historically a rough election for the party in the White House. Therefore, the Republicans should have a great election cycle in 2022. If they don't, that will be a serious sign of trouble for Republicans.
Assuming that the Republicans take back the House in 2022, I think they also follow the historical norm, and overreach. This will benefit Biden or whoever is the Democratic nominee in 2024.
As for '24, although Biden aides are convinced Biden is going to run for re-election, I am not. I say it is 50/50 right now that he runs for re-election. As for who wins, too far out to make such a prediction. Will depend on a number of factors that we can't predict at this moment. I tend to think though that the winner will probably surpass the 81 million votes Biden received, or have about the same amount.
btw, if Trump is the Republican nominee in '24, he will never admit that he lost (once again). He will make another attempt to steal the election and attempt a coup if necessary. VP Harris may end up being the last wall of defense for our democracy come late '24.
