UT & Recruits in Texas

I follow recruiting pretty heavily, like to see what kids are showing interest in OSU, however, this is why College Football has so many kids in the portal because they, the recruit, handlers and parents, still have this narrative and fantasy of UT football.

Not going to blow up this kid, even though he currently does not have an offer from OSU but he is like many recruits here is Texas that continue to view UT as a winning program and/or think they will be the missing piece that will change UT back to a winner. What is also funny, this particular recruit was visiting UT when OSU beat them this season, would seem that would peak the interest in seeing what OSU is about.

I for one, complain about OSU recruiting, this season not included, but the staff does have an uphill battle with high valued targets when they still are brainwashed to go or consider UT.

“I like their tradition and winning culture. Even though they didn’t have a great year last year, they’re pretty much always at the top,” “It’s a great culture, great coaches and great payers. They’re going to build something strong for the future and that’s something I’d like to maybe do there.”

You just cannot make this $hit up....Seriously, UT coaches/staff have to have one of the easiest recruiting gigs!

This Article Says

The Democrats are in such dire straits in the upcoming election their only hope of retaining power is to create a crisis of such importance the public will be uneasy to change leadership until the crisis passes. What crisis could they cook up to such a degree? Hmm. Let me think for a minute. Manufactured crisis, manufactured crisis, what could it be? Oh, I’ve got an idea of something they could use! How about war with Russia over Ukraine? It would have everything they need: Putin is a monster, Ukraine is a sitting duck unless the US steps in. Russia seeks world domination, determined to enslave us all (even though Newt Gingrich says it’s a third world country). Both Republicans and Democrats would fall all over themselves to be the biggest cheerleaders. And it would only cost tens of thousands of American lives, a price they would be more than willing to pay if it kept them in power. After all none of their lives would be in danger. Not to mention billions or trillions of dollars they could spread among their friends. It would be good for the economy, all the economists say so! No. That’s probably not the crisis they’ll create. It would be too obvious.

165

I seen that Shane Griffith wrestling up at 174 yesterday. I know that it was talked about in the preseason that he would be wrestling there, but then started the season at 165. Anyone heard anything on this. Also, on wrestlestat rankings they knocked Wittlake down 3 spots to 8th. I do not think that they like Okie State or Penn State wrestlers much. They do love them some Iowa wrestlers though! haha I know rankings don't mean anything at all unless it determines the seeds for the tourney and even then rankings/seeds do not even matter. Gotta wrestle through the bracket to make your own ranking!

The Oklahoma State basketball team defeated No. 1-ranked Baylor 61-54 at the Ferrell Center in Waco Saturday.

The Cowboys, who entered the game with an overall record of 8-7, including 1-3 in the Big 12, were clearly frustrated after their 78-57 loss to Texas Tech Thursday.

OSU vs. Baylor men's basketball:Three takeaways from Cowboys' upset of top-ranked Bears

“(It’d) be different if I believed we didn’t have the skill level or we didn’t have the talent or anything like that,” Oklahoma State veteran Isaac Likekele told Dave Hunziker and John Holcomb on the post-game radio show.

“We have more than enough talent. We’ve shown glimpses of it this season of what we can be.”

The Pokes took their frustrations out on the Bears Saturday.

'I love that dude': How Bryce Thompson came of age in Oklahoma State's upset of top-ranked Baylor

'I love that dude': How Bryce Thompson came of age in Oklahoma State's upset of top-ranked Baylor

Jacob Unruh
Oklahoman

WACO, Texas — Bryce Thompson always believed he would have his moment.

Injuries prevented it a year ago at Kansas. Inconsistency mired this season at Oklahoma State.

But Thompson knew a breakthrough was coming.

Finally, it did.

“I wouldn’t want it in any other game,” Thompson said.

With the Cowboys reeling from a grueling cross-country road trip of losses, Thompson made nearly every clutch play.

He hit jump shots. He hit big free shots in the final seconds. He had big steals.

And the Cowboys did what they’ve never done before — beat an Associated Press No. 1-ranked team on the road with a stunning 61-54 upset of Baylor on Saturday inside the Ferrell Center.

“I wanted to win so bad,” Thompson said.

Thompson, a five-star recruit from Tulsa Booker T. Washington, had 19 points on 7-of-15 shooting, two rebounds and two assists.

“All I can attest to is just the work,” Thompson said. “Just putting lots of hours in for it. It’s like another rep. I’ve been blessed with gifts and talents and I’m just able to go out there and exercise them to the best of my ability.”

After traveling 2,904 miles for losses at West Virginia and Texas Tech in just six days, the Cowboys’ final 350 miles back to Gallagher-Iba Arena were the happiest of the season.

The win was OSU’s first against a top-ranked opponent since beating Kansas in 2010. Baylor had not lost back-to-back home games since the end of the 2016 season.

“I know the kind of people we have in the locker room, what kind of heart we have,” OSU coach Mike Boynton said about his message in the final minutes. “I know that these guys have been disappointed that they haven’t been able to get the job done prior to today this week.

“So, I just encouraged them that they had put themselves in position to do something that no team in our program’s history had done. Coming into today, I know they had lost Tuesday, but they were still the No. 1-ranked team in the country.”

The Cowboys (9-7, 2-3 Big 12) have been a super-inconsistent team throughout the season. Losing their postseason hopes when the NCAA denied their appeal took a toll. Losses confused and frustrated players.

The talent was there. The wins weren’t.

“We just had to remind ourselves we’re built for these type of games,” OSU forward Tyreek Smith said. “We should be in the top of the Big 12 but things got off slow. I feel like this could be a start to move forward in the right direction.”

OSU started and finished strong.

The Cowboys went on a 12-0 run early and led by as much as 18 points in the first half. Baylor (15-2, 3-2) started 1 for 13 from 3-point range and made just one more in the half while shooting 25.8% overall.

And nearly each time Baylor got going in the second half, OSU had an answer with Thompson.

LJ Cryer, who had 18 points, hit a basket to get within 11, but Rondel Walker followed with a 3-pointer and Thompson cut to the basket and around his defender for a nice floater.

OSU was back up 17 points.

“He showed up today in a big way,” Boynton said of Thompson.

Later, Thompson hit another pullup jumper for an 11-point lead. He also hit another jumper after Walker dove for a ball he deflected that was headed for the baseline, a play Boynton said saved the game.

And even after Baylor cut the deficit to one with 80 seconds remaining, Thompson stayed strong.

After a Bears turnover with 26.6 seconds remaining, Thompson hit two free shots for a 57-54 lead.

Then he intercepted a pass by Adam Flagler with 16 seconds remaining before he was fouled. It was his second steal of the day in by far his best defensive performance of his young career.

“That’s nothing,” Thompson said. “In the heat of the moment you gotta be locked in.”

Thompson then made both free shots as Baylor fans started to exit with the Bears trailing 59-54. Thompson capped the day with a two-handed dunk with 1.5 seconds remaining, yelling near his bench.

A week full of downtrodden moments turned completely around.

And Thompson’s signature game finally became a reality.

“I love that dude,” Smith said. “I love him even more after tonight. That was big time.”

Bryce Thompson

He's taken some (deserved) criticism on here so far this year. What a great game by him today. We don't win without his offense, and then he seals the win with free throws and defense. Really great game and hope it boosts his confidence moving forward. I still don't understand Kalib not playing, he provides more offensively than Cisse and Smith, but Smith does play damn hard and Cisse is a disruptor on defense.

Oline Breakdown

With all the guys transferring it’s interesting to take a look at what we think is going on at the position.

Here is what we know: Last year the oline was inconsistent at best. You could argue it was good enough for us to win 12 games. You could argue it was good in pass protect. You could argue it was bad in run blocking. You could argue it didn’t protect the Qb. Many ways to look at them but I think it boils down to inconsistency. I think they had good moments and they had moments where they flat out looked lost.

So where does that leave us heading into next season. I think it leaves us with needing to improve it no matter what. And you have to do it with the mindset that you have an experienced Qb(which Gundy harps on) and will have a group of young Rb’s. So there is some sense of urgency at the position to get to a point of being more consistently good to achieve at a high level next year.

What we lost to exhausted eligibility:

Josh Sills - Warrior. Good player but not without areas of inconsistency himself. Could have been because he was playing injured. You take this guy for your oline every time you can get him.

Danny Godlevske- solid player. The center position got better this season. Wish we had another year with him but this is what the grad transfer portal is going to be like. 1 year with guys.

What we lost to transfers. We can argue all day if these guys were asked to look around or if they decided that on their own. We don’t know so any of that is speculation. My guess is that some were and some made the choice on their own:

Cade Bennet - This one perhaps hurts the most as it felt like he had a bright future and was going to start making progress toward playing time. Seemed like a mauler. Transfer to San Diego State which is a step down.

Monroe Mills - Came to OSU after having a serious injury. Didn’t hear any reports on him at all and have no clue if he was looking like a guy that would ever help us. Somewhat surprising he ends up at Texas Tech. Not saying Tech is on our level but this is at least a P5 transfer. I think Tech is taking a chance here because this is one I would guess was encouraged to look elsewhere.

Hunter Anthony - In his time here he just never could lock down a spot. He surprised by playing early but he was never consistent enough to hold the spot down. Just not sure he was quick enough to play the majority of the time. Again, shocked to see him transfer to Neb. They are taking a chance here but perhaps based on what they do and ask their olineman to do this will work out for both?

Tyrese Williams - It hurts based on the fact that he adds depth and we saw his value in that. I just don’t ever think he was going to start here. He wants to go somewhere and be a consistent starter. From a depth perspective and a “a bunch of guys already transferred at the position what the heck is going on” this looks bad but when you look at the big picture this is a kid who has been with the program 4 years and just wants a shot to start. He isn’t going to get that here. He probably wasn’t encouraged to move on but he also wasn’t going to be counted on to start.

So where does that leave us in my opinion:

RT - Etienne/Springfield
RG - Wooodard/Russ
C - Michalski/Wilson
LG - Birmingham/need help
LT - Webber/Miterko

Logan Nobles, Incoming recruits Austin Kawecki and Calvin Henry are too young to make an impact next year. Does Silas Barr move back?

To be honest, the above depth chart looks pretty good heading into next season without even adding anyone yet. Some will freak out about that but I honestly think if a few things pan out that has a chance to be one of our better oline groups in the last few years.

Springfield should not be a starter but he has been the past few seasons. What he allows us to do is give Eittiene a chance to live up to his potential. If he does we have a future NFL guy playing that position. If not we go back to Springfield and we know what we get.

Hunter Woodard is simply our best olineman. The kid is good and I would say was our best olineman last season. Good to have him coming back.

Cole Birmingham played out of position. We must get him inside. I think if we can do that we will see a rise in play out of him and our guard positions will be very good.

Michalski handled himself well in the time he played for Danny G. He had moments of inconsistency but for what we threw him into he did good. If Preston Wilson doesn’t lock down that position much like Springfield you at least know what you have with him. Center is a very important position on the oline so it would be nice to have above average play here.

Wilson is a guy that could play multiple positions for us and offers us good depth. Would like to see him take the next step and become a big time player but he has somewhat struggled to lock down a position spot. He is a plug and play guy at this point. His time is now.

Miterko/Etienne - both started to play last year and both disappointed. Both our highest recruited olineman and both have struggled. Etienne a highly recruited JUCO didn’t come in ready. Miterko a guy who had a Notre Dame offer and looks like one of their olineman can’t get on the field for us. Their time is now or never. Both have another year in the program and quite frankly we need them. If they can’t play next season I struggle to see them play. I’m not giving up on either of them but they need to show they are ready. Both have NFL frames.

Webber- kind of reminds me of Tevin Jenkins with how he plays. We are putting a lot of weight on his shoulders counting on him like we are. Highly recruited JUCO who came in early. So far he has taken the correct approach unlike Etienne did last year. Tough to rely on JUCO’s though. I’ll admit it feels like he could come in and start but we have to be very careful with that. The step up from juco ball to our level ball is a big one that not many JuCO’s have made at OSU along the oline.

So that gives us 12 scholarship olineman the way I see it heading into next season. Obviously, we need more help.

Some potential targets:

Michael Shanahan is a guy that has done very well at the FCS level. He has earned some high recognition at the FCS level as an offensive tackle. With 3 question marks(Etienne, Miterko, Webber) at OSU at offensive tackle getting Shanahan would help us solidify and improve our chances of putting some quality out at that position and he brings some college football experience. Not FBS experience so there will still be an adjustment here.

Mason Brooks is another offensive tackle transfer that has visited OSU and is blowing up on the transfer market. Recently visited Texas Tech and is now on his way to Auburn. He would be a huge addition to our line.

Interesting that we are looking at OT’s in the portal. Kind of shows you where we need to improve and what the key is for us. Of course, guys can play multiple positions along the oline so just because you are labeled an OT doesn’t mean you will play that along our oline but I’d think that if we land Mason Brooks that guy is coming in to lock down a tackle spot. Shanahan seems like a guy that we could move inside if we got him.

One final point I will make. It seems that we are losing guys we are trying to develop for the future also. Not only depth but guys you invest in that you count on for the future. However, I believe the portal is going to take away the importance of that. In other words, we could have an oline riddled with older players and have concern what is going to happen in the future when the graduate because our group of young guys seems to be dwindling. The portal is Changing college football and oline is a position where I think we could be effected by the portal the most

So, with all the oline attrition here is a breakdown of where I think we are at. Bottom line, we must get better at this position. We must get more consistent. In my opinion OSU hasn’t had a good/great oline in a long time. Maybe since 2011. It’s time OSU does what it takes to have an upper echelon oline in the big 12. Can we next season? Let’s cuss and discuss it!

I Keep Seeing Articles From Leftist Talking About Civil War, How Trump Is A Authoritarian And To Blame For It All

I find this strange considering the only authoritarian signs I see are coming from the Democrats. I thought maybe I was missing something so I google 'signs of an authoritarian government".
Authoritarianism is a form of government characterized by the rejection of political plurality, the use of a strong central power to preserve the political status quo, and reductions in the rule of law, separation of powers, and democratic voting.

From everything I see the Democrat Party is the one that is rejecting plurality by ignoring traditional minority rights in the Senate. They use the strong central power of government to attack their political opponents with numerous investigations based on wild untrue, accusation. They have used the FBI to advance their false narrative on Russian Collusion, used the IRS to target conservative groups and use the DOJ to go after anyone they deem to be an enemy. Democrats refuse to enforce our immigration laws and we have numerous big city DAs that refuse to prosecute crime that naturally results in more crimes being committed. Democrats by pressing the repeal of the filibuster and threatening the idea of packing the SCOTUS are reducing our governments separation of powers. Then we have the Democrat desires to federalize the entire voting system giving Democrats complete control of the voting process. As Joe has said it's about who gets to count the vote and Democrats do not want Republicans in volved in that process.
Once again Democrats are accusing their opposition of exactly what they are in fact doing. Don't fall for the MSM gas lighting it's all BS.

He Makes One Huge Mistake In His Final Analysis

It’s not the ruling class in Washington that will pay the price. It’s the rest of us who have sat on our hands, or intentionally turned a blind eye because we just didn’t want to think about it, or have been so caught up in domestic partisan bickering we have neglected to see this is one item on which both sides of the political class agree. We’ll be the ones who pay the price, and deservedly so. We’ve said and done nothing while our political betters are leading us into yet another war, and this time we may pay a very unexpected price.
