Well, well, well. Biff tried to get Comey to drop the Flynn investigation.

HIRONO: So if the Attorney General or senior officials at the Department of Justice opposes a specific investigation, can they halt that FBI investigation?

COMEY: In theory, yes.

HIRONO: Has *it* happened?

*this seems relevant because "it" appears to refer to the actual halting of an FBI investigation by the justice department, which we all agree has yet to happen.)

COMEY: Not in my experience. Because it would be a big deal to tell the FBI to stop doing something that -- without an appropriate purpose. I mean where oftentimes they give us opinions that we don't see a case and so you ought to stop investing resources in it. But I'm talking about a situation where we were told to stop something for a political reason, that would be a very big deal. It's not happened in my experience.

I suppose this is where Comey's the implicit vs explicit meaning of Trump's *alleged* request can be parsed to death, to which I'm still in "let's see all the evidence" mode. Boiling the entire memo down to "stop investigating" sort of muddies the waters, no?

So at this point it appears that the question was answered correctly - nobody at the Justice Department has actually ordered him to shut down an investigation.
