That 2016 high school recruiting class is even looking worse with Moore's match in the round of 16 getting tech falled. He did not look good. he looked slow and never challenged the other kid who may wrestle at Maryland. Now Marsden surprised me in a good way beating the Darmstead the number 1 seed.

JO defeated Retherford. He will face Molinaro in the finals tomorrow.

Ringer lost to Dake. Alex closed the gap from their last match, but he will need to figure out how to score on him. Dake has some of the best defense I've ever seen by a wrestler. Truly amazing.

Schafer won by fall after he caught Kasper trying a throw. Schafer takes 5th. Very impressive.

With Marsden up at 211 at this tournament, will he be our heavyweight next year?

I hope little Marsden is in the lineup at either 184 or 197. He's constantly looking for the pin or a big move. Very fun to watch.

Marsden is small at 211. Not afraid to hit any move , definitely fun to watch. Gfeller should have won vs Fletcher.

If didn't see the match, but watched the scoring on floarena. Looks like every decision went against him.

As to Marsden, very happy and excited for him. I hope he was indeed really small for the weight, as I thought the plan was for him to cut to 84. Unless he's going to try and grow to heavy, it appears we might have two really good wrestlers who's ideal weight might be 97.

Mardsen looked very good and if he can make 184 he has some potential there.

Fix was absolutely dominant. Kaden showed well and should have/almost beat OhSt starter at 141 in the semis. Freestyle scoring is just goofy.

More than goofy in my opinion.Gfeller was given 4 points for a foot to back move and then reviewed and his opponent was given the points. I do not know how they justified that. That was completely the difference in the two point match. Marsden is a point scorer and definitely goes for the big moves at the expense of his legs. I thought Keegan Moore looked very good. 184 is in good hands with those two.

I saw Penn. St. signed Verkleeran number 16 recruit in the country. That is along with Lee and Berge and a couple of other not great recruits. Next year they already have Brovo- Young, another Lee, Teasdale, Wittlake and Nevilles all ranked in the top 10. I think I need to surrender and be happy with individuals doing well and placing third at Nationals is good for us. Also if Moore can overpower a wrestler he looks good. He got wrecked by 2 wrestlers that are good but not great wrestlers. The Nebraska kid was from Minnesota also who teched Moore and Moore was higher ranked coming out of high school, I believe in the same class. I think all of the Moore's developed early and did not progress much in college. I don't understand how they can sign all of these kids and we got a 2 man class this year and nobody committed for next year. Penn. St. coaches want to bury the rest of us for who knows how long. I love that we have Fix and I like Gfeller. I also liked Marsden who surprised me that he could roll very good wrestlers but can he make 84 and do the in folkstyle? I think that I need to surrender. It is painful for us to get lapped like this.

Just watched the Gfellar semi match with pletcher and am in complete disbelief on how they could give the other kid 4 points there. Can someone please explain to me how they should've scored that? Also nick lee from penn state was in that bracket. Fix wrestled great and cant wait to have these too.

If you let the worry about Penn State overshadow a really good weekend for OSU wrestlers than yeah it is probably time to make some changes.

I like freestyle better than folkstyle. And have wrestled way more freestyle than folkstyle since high school. The 4 move was Gfeller's it was overturned on the challenge by one person . He missed it.

Hang in there Harley. I know some of your posts are viewed as the "glass is half empty", but I think you make some valid points.

Ventz actually pinned Moore in the 5/6 match. Moore was ranked 27th in the class of 2016, while Ventz was ranked 99th. Still, I'm hopeful that Keegan continues to develop. I see a very solid individual, a very good athlete, and someone who is very good in neutral. If his mat wrestling and conditioning improve, he could definitely jump multiple levels.

And the recruiting trend is a concern, but things do run in cycles. John Smith is too competitive to allow OSU to stop being a title threat. Six straight world golds doesn't happen by accident. I'm hopeful he and the staff are doing whatever is necessary to get back on top.

Until then, celebrate the individual wrestlers, cheer on the team, and enjoy the ride.

Go Pokes!

Yeah, the judges missed that call. There was a similar exchange in the 3rd place match that was scored 4 for Freeman and 1 for Gfeller. But Freeman initiated that move, while Gfeller initiated the move against Pletcher.

More importantly though is how well Kaden wrestled. He actually almost pinned Pletcher with an armbar. He wrestled aggressively the entire tournament. I think he has tremendous potential in college and beyond.

Harley, Believe me, I understand your frustration but the reality of the situation is this. For every Fix and Gfeller we have in the state of Oklahoma Pennsylvania, Ohio, New Jersey, Illinois have ten of them. The Pennsylvania wrestlers naturally tend to stay close to home. How did it work out three years ago when we "stole" the top kid in the nation in Chance Marsteller after he was a lock for PSU. I think that being close to the situation Cale let him go knowing he had major problems. In Oklahoma we have some good wrestlers but we will never have the numbers of those other states. We need to cherry pick when we can from Pa, Ohio , New Jersey, Illinois and then go west young man go west as California has many good to great wrestlers. I believe our coaches did an outstanding job this year with the material they had. This is not the Gallagher, Griffith, Roderick days when we ruled the nation. I see bright spots in the future but for the present we have to recruit had and smart. Penn State may have the majority of the top recruits but there are only ten weights.
