rademacher loses his semi 9-1. He had no energy the whole time and just couldn’t get anything going.
In the other two finals, Duke loses 7-6 in a wild bout, while Ryder won his semi 6-3.
So the USA went 2-3 in the semis. Not a bad showing. These are all tough matches. Tomorrow we have three more guys competing. Obereo can sleep in until 3;30. That's when it starts.

Duke deserved that win. Russian was very good and physically mature, but took about 3 gas tank injury timeouts to recover when things got frenzied. Without those being allowed, Duke keeps grinding to takedowns. It looked like SEC defenders playing against up-tempo offenses.
On top of that, Duke got a 4 point throw with like 3 seconds only to have a step out called on his opponent first. No idea why we didn't challenge. The whole thing stunk, I felt bad for the kid even though he's about to be a blue heathen.

Had to attend a funeral so I missed it all. Do not think I can get up at 3AM two days in a row so I will surrender the forum to Pennstate1985 in the morning.
Haven't rewatched yet but it looked like Basset made two major mistakes and the Japanese wrestler capitalized on both of them. He got weirdly extended on a shot sequence which allowed Japan a relatively easy to go behind, then he tried to fight the takedown from quadpod, but he never established it well (he went to his head on the initial go-behind/throw-by) and it be broken anyways. From the short lived quadpod Japan got an elbow-to-elbow low gut locked up... He probably could have presented better par terre defense but after a gut like that gets locked up by someone of that level, you in for a short match regardless.
I wouldn't imagine we don't see him make either one of those mistakes too many more times.
Just sayin', 5-0 when Oberebo posted and 2-3 when PennState1985 posted. Hmm.............

Got up at 4:30AM and here is what I know so far. Blaze won 4-0 at 61kg. Lockett at 74kg was leading 10-2 early in 2nd period and then got a fall. At 92kg Mirasola had a 10-0 tech. Barr at 86KG had a bye first round and Kueter has not yet wrestled at 125kg.

Lockett wins 6-0 in round of 8 and is in the qtrs. Tough match and he was almost taken down but won the challenge and came back with a 4 point move. BTW great narrative above by Pennstate1985 and good morning to you!
Since you guys care about Lockett the most, here was a bracket analysis by zzs006 on the PSU board the other day:
74kg is always a tough weight and this year is no different. The huge favorite in Rezaei is opposite Lockett along with Ando, Yaprak, Caso, and Marcu. Locket’s path is super tough though. He starts with this years 3rd placer at U20 Asians Tuleberdiev. Win and he gets Eshinimaev who I picked to win silver. Get by him and his quarter should be much easier. Win and in the semis he probably gets either Itaev or Gevorgyan. Itaev took 5th at senior Euros this year and only lost to Musukaev 2-1 and Andreasyan 6-5. Gevorgyan took 3rd at U17 worlds last year only losing to Blaze. I really don’t know what to think after seeing this bracket. I could see him making the finals or not placing at all. Tough path so he has to be on point every match.

I blinked and missed it but Lockett had an 11-0 tech fall and is in the semis. I will have to go back and look at it on replay.
I'm always surprised that at this level, so many of our opponents lack the cardio to go 6 minutes. Since so many look bigger than our guys, I wonder if the old weight cutting techniques are hurting some of those countries in actual matches.

That favorite has to get by the Japanese wrestler, and the way Japan has been wrestling recently we shall see how that favored guy does! haha Japan has showed off lately, the Olympics started it all!
With that said though, they semi's have to be wrestled to see who even makes the finals. I just watched the finals from last years 70kg, where Rezae wrestled Shapiro for gold. He started off hot with a TD and turn to go up 4-0 in the first 30 seconds. But afterwards looked gassed and looking for a reason to take blood/injury time. He got another takedown late in the match with a spurt of energy that caught Shapiro off guard.
