U20's World Championships

Top of the morning to you sir. All narratives by SlipperyPete12. He does an amazing job of describing the action. He must have a voice activation keyboard gizmo to be able to type all that detail AND watch the action.
Voice to text transcription is pretty standard these days. If you get into it, just proofread because it makes some pretty funny mistakes sometimes.

Some people can't enjoy life, can they? Not sure if that's a question. I've seen many asinine posts on the internet, but never someone questioning whether a question is a question. The question mark turns a statement into a question. And more than one person too! Life is too short for that stuff.

I didn’t read through so it’s probably been mentioned but Basset and Blaze getting blasted by young Japanese guys is pretty interesting considering what happened in Paris. They are really putting out some elite wrestlers
Those bouts were not close. We got what we deserved today except Mirasola. He got screwed big time by the refereeing. I normally don't blame refs, but the ref let the Bulgarian dictate the pace of the match with the injury time and the very late point given to decide the match in favor of the Bulgarian. It's been a while since I have seen something so blatant. Soviet era officiating.

57kg match is one of the handful of reasons why FS can’t really catch on here in America.

Three passivity points. Had the ref not in a somewhat unusual call put the other wrestler in the clock for a second time, that guy wins gold simply due to being on the clock first.

Just silly stuff.

Its not like we don’t have major issues with Folkstyle in regards to stalling and fleeing

For sure but a match can more frequently be decided by the subjectivity of a ref in FS and that’s a big problem.
How much time is given to par terre is wildly variable too. Check the IG clip of Lockett. He gets a full 27 seconds to work his exposure. Im used to see them get around 10 seconds tops to work par terre.

Anyways glad to see our team crushing it!

Dee did America proud, 1st year U20 eligbility, before senior year of HS and he makes the finals and was inches from beating a legit senior guy. You guys have a special one.
I thought I read that Dee's opponent was ranked #13 in the world at the weight at any level.

Mirasola lost 6-2 but IMHO the whole tenor of the match changed when we were not given a two point takedown at the edge of the mat which looked like it should have been a continuation. We definitely were the aggressor in the match. We gave up another takedown at the end when we made desperation shot and missed.

Lockett had a very determined attitude and looked like he was not going to be bullied. Twice the Iranian tried to move him during breaks and he would have none of it.
Kueter wrestled well but against a bigger stronger opponent and lost decision 4-2. He had the last takedown. We should be proud of our showing overall as we won the team title and pushed all ten wrestlers into the semis and we had nine medals to show for it.

USA freestyle wrestling is on the upswing, and we should all be elated to be able to watch it happen in real time. The next 10 years on the int'l circuit will be exciting. We need to hire Tonya Harding to go to Japan though.

USA wrestling had a drought for a while. Then we had quite a lot of success over the last I'd say ten years or so. Now that those wrestlers over the last ten years are older and mentoring and coaching these younger guys, the world better watch out!

What has Japan done differently in men's wrestling the last few years, because I did not see their men doing as well as they did in the Olympics.

Bassett won 19-8 but gave up exposure four different times off his shots. His opponent was a great counter wrestler but Bassett wore him down in the 2nd and he got some easy TDs for the tech. Bassett is better than I ever dreamed of becoming but he would benefit from a slightly slower pace and take his time to finish shots. In some respects he reminds me of Mesenbrink. All pace all the time with the firm belief that you can wear out the opponent.
Definitely a fixable flaw. The other way around is not as easy

15th at 74kg on Flo's international freestyle rankings.
That's pretty impressive that in his first int'l tournament (or so I understand), that Dee stood toe to toe with #15 in the world and wasn't intimidated by the moment. He will only learn from the experience in both folk and free. Who cornered him this weekend??

Another thought on Japanese wrestlers. Ono at 70kg who teched Bassett in the semis did the same thing even better in the finals. He had a takedown with the first 3-4 seconds and then turned the Iranian 4 more times for a tech in 26 seconds. This guy is quick as a cat.

After watching this weekend and the Olympics, I think it's fair to say that the Japanese aren't just the best in the world in the light weights, they're on another level completely. Wonder how Ono has fared against the guy who beat Lee for the gold. They're both astoundingly good, and that's just one weight. Not to mention their women's team.
