U.S. Open Championships April 23rd-27th

I think you are wrong because a lot of your disappoint seems to be that Cody teched Connor before and now got beat. I can’t find any record or result of Cody teching Conner. Any idea when it happened?

Do I think Cody looked great? Not really but Connor is a stud. Let’s not forget we aren’t that far removed from Cody having a very close match with the national champion.

I’m just not sure how anyone can be disappointed with the weekend as whole. This weekend was an extremely successful one for OSU wrestling.
Cody looked fine, he had a good tournament and fell short with a bad match in the finals.

I take it as a true positive when the biggest negative is a second place finish at the US Open. I sure wish I was a disappointment!

This was a good weekend for OSU Wrestling. Was it perfect? Nope, but it was dang good!

On future OSU vs PSU guys.

Cody Merrill was disappointing, but I'm 100% sure DT will get to work with him and prepare him better for the season. Merrill seemed to have gas tank issue with confusion on how to attack, bigger longer Connor.

With a year scrambling with Doucet and Wyatt, I'm taking ross over almost anyone including Cole Mirasola. Ross was impressive, and therr is no pushouts in folk style. Cole is not impressive at all with winning over Mocco by 6 push outs and a review point.

Anytime Dee lockett faces Sealey, I see Dee winning, even if its close. That will go only one way.

Jax vs Blaze will be interesting battle to come in future for 61kg. Both winning one and Jax seems to be ever improving. I will take offensive Jax over defensive Marcus.

Duke vs Robideau is interesting, Duke is a stud, But Robideau doesnt back down, I see Landon improving in Stillwater, wrestling with studs in the ctraining center.

Not to mention, all Ross, Dee, Jax and Robideau are all younger than their PSU counterpart (Some by 2 years) . I see OSU doing well in future against PSU.

Beau vs Young is irrelevant since Young wont start mostly for us at same weight as Beau.
In his post-match interview, Dee said he's rooming with Robideau and that's helped him improve on the lifestyle things like eating right, etc. I think those two are going to really sharpen one another in the coming years. Robideau has a quiet intensity and you can tell he's all-in, while Dee wears his heart on his sleeve and leaves no questions about his goals and priorities. Both guys are super passionate but in different ways. The bonds those two and the rest of the young guys are forming is really exciting to see.

Anyone with two brain cells can look at the difference in OSU's wrestling program now compared to before Taylor was hired. Every aspect has improved. It's like night and day. Some people just won't be satisfied unless we have 10 national champions at the end of the year, which means they will never be satisfied.
That’s not true!

We CAN have 10 Champs…I even predict it every year for the last decade!

Well not quite everything because we are still calling this here forum 34 & counting ... John Smith program. When is someone going to man up and change the name else let's sign up for a new rival forum and all move over there!!

Gotta win every match by pin after leading 14-0 in the first period!

I messaged the owner JeffJ, he didn't respond. I started a tech support ticket and a chat session, Yahoo didn't respond to either. I started a help thread, mods here said there's nothing they can (aka they're not having success talking to JeffJ and don't know what else to try). I started a help thread in one of the other forums that's not behind a paywall, nobody responded. I asked that folks post in the Corral for more visibility, don't know if anybody did since its behind a paywall.

Someone else's turn!

Any chance we recruit Coby?

Wouldn't touch Coby with AJ's uncle's ten-foot pole. Unless it's a snap, he can't score. DT got the far better recruit.

That's really the only weakness I see in his game. He's very quick and fundamentally sound from every position, flexible, great mat awareness and strategy, all kinds of different attacks. I hope he can increase his endurance.

He's fine. Expended a ton of energy actually trying to score points. Sealey gameplanned the ish out of that match. and still lost.
If has any chance of hanging with Messenbrink he better focus heavily on his cardio.

You're not saying a whole lot here. LOL. Caliendo is the only guy who's been able to stand in front of Mesenbrink for 7 minutes. Dude completely wore out Carr.

Caliendo hasn’t been very competitive.

Then someone sign us up for a new forum with a reasonable simple name (like OSU Wrestling etc) and then start a new thread here with instructions on where to find the new forum and let's let this Counting thing die a quick death.

Discussed...however, common sense and Yahoo don't often collide in the same sentence.

So, for that to be done, the Wrestling talk could die for up to 30 days, or one billing cycle. It might be something to contemplate say at the end of July? But honestly, it's not a huge issue to many.

Could we start a new one and keep using this one for the 30 days, then flip over?

I don't think so? I think there is a certain # of slots for forums and maybe only one per sport?

Maybe David could get ahold of Rivals/Yahoo? I'm just telling you guys, the time this will take talking to bots, then a little Indian girl, then a Philipino manager, then to an English speaking rep to accelerate to management is not worth the worry at this time.

Are there other platforms outside Rivals/ Yahoo that make sense? I can't believe in today's age, this is so difficult. I am fine with this, but seems customer service should be more responsive, even if this is the "free portion". 🤷‍♂️

If you get past the bots you've done better than I have!

At some point you have to ask "when will it be worth the worry"? Then again, maybe DT will have a staff member get on it. This forum is part of OSU Wrestling's branding. It makes sense to keep it on here with the other OSU discussions... literally just needs a few words deleted from the description.

Or are there other OSU sports forums?

My takeaway from this weekend is that OSU should have taken Bassett and let PSU have Forrest.

His matches at the Big Ten and NCAA finals say different.

Let's make no mistake - Mesenbrink is next year's "next topic" guy. But Caliendo closed a pretty large gap from the dual to NCAAs.
Willie said on one of his post NCAAs shows that Spencer told him they throw him and DeSanto at him for 30 straight minutes to emulate Mitchell’s pressure and pace.

You shouldn't put old photos of yourself on this forum, you just outed yourself.

You let the euphoria of Jax performing so well, you slipped!
I will say that it was exhausting having to read all the play-by-play of PSU wrestlers and recruits this weekend. I needed today off to rest.
I will say that of all the non-PSU guys, Jax was far and away the best of the bunch. You guys know I was rooting to get Jax, so was not surprised by his results. I think I've called him a multi time champ, and I don't recall ever calling a HS kid that ever. You guys have something special in Jax.

Bad take. Coby is elite and he scores in bunches. He and Dreshaun were both very measured because they each had respect for the other guy's abilities, so it ended up being a one-takedown match with that takedown coming in the last 30 seconds.

Before that, Coby went Pin, Tech, Tech, and 9-0. That 9-0 was against Hopke who beat your guy Mocco 6-2.

Not a bad take. He can only score off a snap. No ability to attack legs.

That doesn't translate to heavyweight at the NCAA level anymore.

He actually has more than a snap. I saw him hit a nice low single in the last sr level tournament he wrestled in. It’s on YouTube. Just type his name and watch. He wrestled hilger and I belive lane from Nebraska during that tournament. He did fairly well and. He BEat a couple of SR guys as well

Just saying that he's limited. Watch his matches from this weekend. He's more of a traditional heavyweight. And no need to recruit him when you have Ross - who is much more offensive.

If I'm a team that doesn't have Ross/Mocco/Hopke - sure. Take him. He's just not my cup of tea.

Hello gentleman, let me start by saying its a damn good day to be a Cowboy wrestling fan. Was an awesome weekend of watching a few current , some future and some past Cowboys, as well as a couple great outside additions to the Cowboy RTC. Coach DT and Co are making the Cowboys relevant again on the freestyle scene and I absolutely love it!

The future is bright after watching U17s/U20s. How can you not be excited after watching Ramirez, Robideau, Lockett, Merrill, Ross and Zinkin?

A few notes: I didnt get to watch all the matches, I had a busy weekend but I watched some of the bigger matchups.
- Ive been higher on Ramirez than most I think. Kid is so fast and is just an athlete. If he buys in 100% he's going to be a big factor at OSU.
-I think LRob was impressive and was able to keep it respectable with a horse like Duke. Imo PJ has had the better coaching so far and has an edge in technique but give Landon some time in the room and hes going to be a contender.
-Lockett did LD things and is an amazing talent. I dont think anyone needs to tell him or Coach Taylor that his tank will have to be insane to go with MM next season. I think next season he will be pushed harder than hes ever trained and we have the training partners to get him there. (Fish, Cam, DJ, TC not to mention LRob and Facundo)
-As far as Merrill, yes he wrestled the better Mirasola, and no I dont think theyve wrestled before. Am I concerned? No not really. Both Mirasolas are really good and have A LOT more FS experience and were probably training much more freestyle the last several months than Cody w/ goals to make the U20 team. I think Cody's hesitancy to shoot was because it was a FS match. Lets not forget Cody wrestled this last season's natty champ 2-0 in folkstyle.
-Dreshaun Ross is hands down THE BEST heavyweight prospect in HS and under the guidance of Coach Taylor has the potential to be a multiple time national champion.
-I messaged Vega's father and Sergio has gone extremely hard the last month and his body needed some rest. Will be looking to compete next month in the WTT.

JAX FORREST- SWEET BABY JESUS this young man can wrestle! Jax outscore his opponents 56-8 over the course of the tourney and I think his closest match was Devino (Tosu got a damn good one). The talent and drive this guy has is exceptional and he's just a great human as well. Cant wait to watch him in orange in GIA!

I wont go into detail on the Sr matches as a whole but 4 wins of the 5 finals match ups is just amazing and sends a big big message to the wrestling world. Once Dean gets more experience and can make those smooth transitions in FS the way he does in folk, look out!

Cant say enough about what Coach DT and Co are doing in Stilly. And guess what?

ITS ONLY GOING TO GET BETTER!

Fartz out ✌️
