What is everyone's reaction to this? Anti-trumpers are predictably upset for reasons such as "it belittles the contribution/important work of the 755 diplomats that are being let go" to "OMG HE JUST THANKED/KOWTOWED to PUTIN!!!"
I view it as a troll job, no different than when Putin belittled Obama after he kicked out Russian diplomats. Second, we are being told that US-Russia relations are as low as they've ever been post-Cold War. My question then is "how effective are these 755 displaced diplomats to begin with?" From that perspective, Trump may have a completely valid point with cost savings (even though it's a troll job).
