Because if one country reduces emissions it can have a meaningful impact on the total global emissions. The same reason people clip coupons for 10% off, but they don't bother with coupons for .00000004% off.

Nope. You're married to it. Individual contribution isn't meaningful. I previously tried to convey exactly what you just did based on individual action and you discarded it as meaningless. So therefore, if none of the other 192 countries and 2 observer states are going to make the same level of sacrifice, it's meaningless for the US to do it.
BTW, it has been acknowledged that even with the emissions cuts promised under the the Paris agreement, it won't be sufficient to avoid 2C warming, because there's too little cutting overall. We apparently just need to all wait for a new technology to save us.
But in the mean time, guzzle that energy and celebrate that your individual sacrifice would be meaningless anyway.
I'm afraid you have beat me completely with logic. I say that individual action is meaningless because it is small so therefore collective action must be meaningless because it isn't universal.

More than one individual is a collective. But I guess I shouldn't expect folks who strongly agree with the concept of man-made climate change to be the first to make individual sacrifies because that would be leading.

I'm also proud to say I practice what is preached even though I'm not all in. In the interest of resources and pollution, it's the right thing to do.
I'll wait for all the environmental intelligentsia to first abandon their private jets and fly commercial to their tea and crumpet dog and pony shows. Forsaking their stretch limos for rented LeCar's too. Only then will I consider them serious about what they preach.
