Thoughts About Hillary In 2020

“...there is no doubt Clinton is intelligent.”

I didn’t say she isn’t intelligent. I said she isn’t “particularly” intelligent. Through most of her political career she has been portrayed as one of the smartest women alive. That’s something I’ve never understood. She completely botched her attempt at national healthcare. She was divisive as First Lady, demanding that we accept her as co-President with Bill. She moved to New York where she was guaranteed a Senate seat, and then had no accomplishment as a Senator. She was dutifully dispatched by Obama, who Bill thought should be fetching their coffee. And then bartered her way onto Obama’s cabinet where she was a disaster as Secretary of State (with the exception of being exceptionally corrupt). She ignominiously lost to Trump because she ran one of the most incompetent campaigns one can imagine. So, my question for you is to show me an example of her high intelligence.

I said she was intelligent, which she is. She graduated with honors in political science from Wellesley College where she was the first student in the history of that college chosen to speak at graduation (a speech btw that brought her some national attention due to its content). She also graduated from Yale Law School. She practiced law and taught law early in her career. She cofounded Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families. She was the first woman to serve as chair of the Legal Services Corporation early on.

As First Lady of Arkansas, she oversaw the implementation a number of new policies and programs, especially related to education. Her work in that area won her awards in Arkansas. She served as chair of numerous organizations, implementing and overseeing different programs. As First Lady of the United States, she sought improvements to the health care system in the country. Yes, she was not successful politically at the start however that changed, as she assisted in the passage and adoption of SCHIP. She worked with the DOJ to create the Office of Violence Against Women, helped pass the Foster Care Independence Act, etc. She accomplised a lot as First Lady, more than most first ladies do.

She was then elected (and re-elected, where she received 67% of the vote) by the citizens of New York to the Senate. She helped NYC recover from 9-11, secured federal funding after 9-11, led efforts to investigate health issues suffered by 9-11 first responders, etc. She was actively engaged in the Senate and played a role in numerous important legislation and/or policy considerations. After almost securing the Democratic nomination in 2008, she became Secretary of State. While at the State, she started the QDDR and pursued a smart power approach while there. She was an important player and advisor in the Obama administration. She visited over 110 countries and was the most traveled Secretary of State in the history of this country. She visited a number of countries for the first time and increased the diplomatic presence of the United States around the world.

She then of course ran for President again in 2016. She became the first woman to win the presidential nomination of a major political party. She went on to win 65.8 million votes and the popular vote in that election while losing the electoral college vote. She received about the same amount of votes that Obama received in 2012 (around 62,000 less).

Those are just a few of Clinton's accomplishments that come to mind. She worked hard to get where she got and her successes started at a young age. There is no doubt that she is intelligent, whether you agree with her politics or not Ponca. Ask yourself, if this was a libertarian man who had all these accomplishments, would you question his intelligence?

btw, I never said she was the smartest woman alive and I don't really recall her being portrayed in that manner. She was portrayed as very qualified, but that is different from claiming she is the smartest woman alive.

Just a couple of reactions and then you can have the last word.

We’re talking intelligence on this thread, not accomplishments. So let’s talk a little bit about intelligent people.

My daughter-in-law graduated Magna from Yale, got her Masters at Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar, and her PhD back at Yale where her thesis was printed as a book (very rare). I flew up to Connecticut to attend her ceremony and threw a party for her and her fellow graduate students and professors.

I expected to be completely intimidated by that crowd. My daughter-in-law is so intelligent it is scary. I tried to read her book and could barely get through 50 pages before I gave up. At the party I expected to be surrounded by people like her. After all they were PhD candidates and graduates and professors from Yale. And I’m a small businessman from flyover country.

To tell the truth I was surprised. The intelligence shown by the people in that room was underwhelming. They were very smart, no doubt about it. But not one of them blew me away as “particularly” intelligent (with the exception of my DIL).

So while Hillary may have been a star while a student at college, I do not agree that accounts for her being “particularly” intelligent.

As regards her time in Arkansas, for the most part she played the role of rain maker for a prestigious law firm in Little Rock. After all she was the wife of the governor. Her participation in the organizations you proffer was almost certainly symbolic. Most people who chair that kind of organization or charity have little more to do than go to photo ops.

I would go on about her time as First Lady, Senator and Secretary Of State, but this comment might never end. You get my point. In my opinion - and I stress it is my opinion only! - Hillary has not shown anything that is not much more than slightly above average in intelligence. Her accomplishments have mostly come as the wife of a governor and president, and for the most part have been ceremonial and symbolic, and have not come as the result of any “particular” intelligence.

Now you can rebut me and we’ll call it a day.

As First Lady of Arkansas she spent all her time running down the runway trying to find out who was in the back of the plane with bill. Known fact. She’s out of touch and no amount of snarts will bail her out. She’s a crook as well.

No, I was talking about both in response to your original post. And both are interrelated. You don't accomplish all that Clinton has accomplished and not be intelligent. I also say the same thing about Trump too when individuals question his intelligence.

btw, just because she is a wife doesn't downplay her accomplishments. You are married, correct? I am sure you will readily admit (at least I hope) the importance of your wife in your life, career, and family. I know how important mine is in this regard. Downplaying/dismissing her intelligence and accomplishments because she also is a wife, while ignoring the role she played with her husband, is rather benighted.

So she was a very special housewife and then got people to vote for her. She had the DNC in her pocket in 2016 and still got her ass kicked because she was a terrible candidate. Again, how has she earned any influence?

I other words....”you’re getting the silent treatment after this and I’m gonna claim it is my gift to you.”

Hildebitch is so unaccomplished she probably had a staff member at the Arkansas Governor's Mansion breastfeed her and Webb Hubbell's love child, Chelsea.

Any possibility that said staff member is still around and can buy the pork chops to hang around Chelsea's neck when she runs?
The staff member, I believe, is now "working" in Chappaqua along side, or under, Bill.
